apart from the fact that I find the the term "knifes" on hikes abrasive, I am nevertheless amazed at the types of hardware members of this forum are prepared to lug into the bush. the equipment presented in these threads gets more and more fantastical with each post.light weigh chainsaws next? are they victims of some bear Grylls / survivalist type scenarios prevalent on popular media? one wonders what these guys get up to in stove only areas.

Guess it just reflects the wide variety of bush pursuits that members participate in, each requiring different gears.

It's all about fun and games, and perhaps boyish amusement Gulliver3. I certainly can identify with those aspects, although I do not choose to accept the weight handicap to indulge myself in this way when walking.

All good fun and good luck to those who accept the weight penalty. A rather harmless expression of individuality, really :D

Not so long ago when taking a full sized axe on a walk was mandatory with some groups so taking a small knife is a non-event for some of us. I never got around to posting pictures of some of the blades I carry from time to time
Range from 12 inch bladed kukris weigh about 2 kilos to small plastic handled paring knives weighing less than 20 grams, none of which is a big deal
Just part of the member spectrum

Another vote for whatever floats your boat. For what I do, not having a knife is considered a pretty big faux pas, but yet, I've met people who still don't carry one. Of course, so far the most important tool I've ever carried was the can opener on my swiss army knife, Fed a bunch of hungry children, better the tuna than me!

I really doubt carrying a knife in the bush is a new fad. I personally carry a small pen knife with everywhere I go and it gets used at some stage everyday by not only me but other borrowers.

Soles look solid. Wonder what the fit's like.

Oddly enough I had a dream last night about a pair of boots - brand new and after a short walk they had holes in the leather. Was not at all impressed.

I guess being that high you wouldn't need to wear gaiters as well and they would match one of my saws.
