TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Butane only gas cartridges?

I understand the propane / butane mix is to ensure low temp performance of these stoves - but question is - do they provide any benefit (more efficient / higher calorific output etc) if you won't experience low temperatures?

The heat output (BTU) is the same.
So if not using the stove below 0 just use butane.

I'm of the uneducated opinion that the ISO/Butane cartridges are the best.
All seem to suffer from the cold to one degree or an other.
The ISO Butane are available from Big W for around the same price as the straight butane that kmart,Bunnings etc sell, so I grab the ISO Butane versions.
I still tend to stick with my Trangia for trips longer than a couple of days.
I've responded to this thread assuming its about the fly spray looking canisters.
I've not seen straight butane canisters in the primus screw on design.

If it's the blue, tall ones, they are only about 15% ISO, and the rest is butane, from memory.

I have an adaptor that transfers Butane into screw top canisters and it works really well ,I think there is a thread on here about them .
