Very droll. No, tried it once (near a creek, no way to get 100 or even 50 m from water easily) - look at the website, its got some deodoriser in it which also absorbs fluid, paper, I think a wet-wipe as well. Two zip-locked bags. I felt ok discretely placing it in a bin near the railway station shops - if its okay for doggy doos its ok for mine. I think for longer trips a trowel might be better, although for the snow-shoers and canyon loving walkers its an alternative to a large single container which might well be whiffy.
I have heard that some of the hikers and providers using USA walks with a mandatory pack-it-out-and-we-will-check-on-you policy get users to offer contributions as "burritos" - ie wrapped up in absorbable paper and then (?) foil or some such, rather than the older, shared ammo box or similar. Might be in the latest edition of "How to *&%$#! in the woods" (published by Hill of Content) - I've only the 2nd.
Its important - I've been along too many walks with an unpleasant surprise in the middle. I've also just driven back from NT - SA in particular doesn't provide a lot of rest areas with loos, although the number of truck and car rest areas has increased. As a result, there's toilet paper all over them and PARTICULARLY (yuck) in any of the few creek beds which are out of sight of the road.....Maybe the truckies should be asked to pack it out.
