Is anyone able to advise on the availability of water at or near these huts, please?

Don't know about Edmonson but the water drum/tank at Fitzgeralds is only for firefighting if I recall correctly.

Thanks. Parks Vic were not confident but thought there might be water in Nelse Creek just south of Edmondson Hut. They believe we will find water in the aqueduct below Fitzgerald Hut. I'll check with them again late next week before we leave.

There may be some water near Kelly's hut (just down the 107 track a bit) from a soak/small stream and it will be closer than the aqueduct although that water would be better. The stream near Edmondson's is likely to still have some flow. The rain has not been great but it may be enough. 3km down track 107 is Wildhorse creek and that has good water and good camping. There are a couple of water sources close to Big River fire trail just near the turnoff to Fitz hut and it may be worth filling up there as it is not far to Fitz hut. You should be able to see them from the road. Neil is correct about the water drum at Fitz hut but the water is usually manky anyway if there is any left.

Thanks Xplora. That is really useful information.

I was at Ed. hut on Sat. but didn't go down to look at the creek behind the hut. It had rained a lot the night before so I guess it is flowing.

Thanks. I spoke to a ranger at Parks Vic Mt Beauty today and he was confident that there will be water in Nelse Creek. There is more rain forecast before we go, so I'm feeling fairly relaxed about water near both huts now.
