"Police located the woman just before 7.45am this morning, and they are assisting the woman to Waterfall Valley Hut. The woman will then be transported out of the area, either by helicopter or walking, depending on her condition."

It was very rough yesterday afternoon.
Noticed a police vehicle at the car park this morning on the webcam.

Update from the Mercury

Noticed there is a lake right beside Waterfall Valley hut on the google map.
Click on the satellite view & the lake becomes the clearing in the valley.

Looks like the woman & the rescue crew are stuck at the hut until the rescue chopper can fly in.

I've been caught out overnight inadvertently (after copping a migraine on Johnnies Top) in similar conditions in the Victorian high country. It wasn't pleasant but I was probably better equipped both physically and mentally to cope.
Also once on Jagungal when I was stupid enough to linger on the summit for the sunset and hadn't left a lamp on in the tent.

Yes you were probably more experienced and prepared but personally with no real Idea as to where I was?? even you would have been concerned I believe , and it did take them two days to walk her out from WFV Hut.
From experience that small distance from Fury Gorge to the Cirque in Deep Snow is hellish over those big rocks,get up there to the Rodway Junction and bugger me no track markers would have many lost .
Having said all that it is my personal belief that like in the past OLT walkers especially in Winter were checked out before they left ,got to be cheaper than Rescue both walking and Chopper

Disagree entirely. I can just imaging the reaction of some overly ambitious idiots when an over worked under paid ranger with better things to do attempts to tell them they cant start. This situation just puts a percentage of the individuals responsibility onto the ranger.

Its really time people started to take responsibility for their own actions.

That would be fine if all we were talking about was rescues from the OLT. What about all the other areas people get choppered out of ?
Its just not practical to have bag checkers at the start of all the main walks in the state.
I think there should be some form of review or investigation after the event and people suspected of scamming a free scenic flight from Search and Rescue should be held accountable ( ie; pay their airfare ).

Devonport man missing since Wednesday, his car has been found at Dove Lake car park.
Not a helicopter rescue yet but hoping for a good outcome.

AUTHORITIES are searching an area around Dove Lake, at Cradle Mountain, for any sign of a Devonport man who has been missing for several days.

Tasmania Police today said they held grave concerns for Lionel Lawrence Collins, 69.

He was last seen leaving his family home in Devonport about 5.30pm on Wednesday.

At 12:00pm on Monday 5/9/16 Tasmania Police were notified of an overdue 56 year old Judbury man who was bushwalking in the area of Lake Skinner and the Snowy Range. The Tasmania Police Westpac Rescue Helicopter was activated and shortly after the activation a PLB was activated by the missing man. The helicopter was unable to reach the location due to high wind and low cloud. However the rescue crew were able to walk to the location of the PLB where they found the missing man who was uninjured. Due to weather conditions the crew is camping on Snowy South for the night and will attempt to walk out with the man in the morning.

THE Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew defied heavy snowfalls on Mt Wellington to winch an injured bushwalker to safety in the early hours of this morning.

This party included my brother in law and three of his mates. The injured person actually snapped both tibia and fibia, far more serious than the fractured ankle described by the media. He is scheduled for surgery today. It took 4 hours for emergency services to arrive to assess the situation due to waiting for council to come and unlock the snow barriers on Pillinger Dve. Accident happened near Kara Hut on very steep terrain made even more difficult under recent conditions, making a helicopter evacuation necessary.

At approximately 2:45pm police received a call for assistance from a walker nearby Crater Lake, Cradle Mountain. The caller and his wife aged 31 from NSW were on a day walk when his wife slipped and fell suffering a knee injury. The section of track where they were located is steep and rocky. The Westpac Rescue helicopter was dispatched from Hobart and both people were transported to the helipad adjacent to the Cradle Mountain Visitors Centre where they were met by a Tasmania Ambulance crew. The female will be receiving further treatment at the North West Regional Hospital.

A walking party on an overland track near Cradle Mountain activated a personal emergency beacon at around 7pm tonight. As we said earlier, domestic commercial aircraft were diverted over the area whilst the Tasmania Police Westpac rescue chopper was activated. We are told contact was made confirming a member of the walking party had a suspected fractured leg. The helicopter transported the person to Launceston for medical treatment and returned to its Hobart base.

34 year old AJ Ahmed Rogzay called Triple Zero earlier this evening to report he was injured while walking on a mountain near Launceston and needed help. Unfortunately he didn't know his location and his phone can't be traced.

Edit 2: 'A missing bush walker, who was believed to have been lost in the North East area, has been located safe and well this morning.
Last night police received a Triple Zero call from a 34 year old Victorian man who indicated that he was injured and missing but did not know his location.
Police commenced a search using the Westpac Rescue Helicopter last night.
Police contacted the man’s friends in Victoria last night and this morning were advised that the man had returned to the home of an associate near Pioneer and was safe and well.
Police would like to remind people if you do make contact with police and no longer need our help, please make sure you let us know.
Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in this matter.'
