Here's a wild guess: Looking at Upper Lake Jukes from the side of Pyramid Peak.
Peak bagging points: 170ish

Yes - clearly the wrong shape for SANCTUARY Lake (well just a bit wrong)

So we have a narrow part of a large lake at the back with a long even-height ridge behind. Perhaps it is Lake Gordon.
Looking at google satellite/maps - there is a lone lake to the west of Lake Gordon - in the Hamilton Range.
That's a place we have never done in the game!

Checks the LIST - and comes up empty - a no-name lake! But it appears to be the only one in the Hamilton Range.

Thanks for the proxy SW :D

eggs - eggcellent detective work as always; yes, it is the little unnamed lake on the eastern side of the Hamilton Range.
We did a day trip out here recently in an attempt to reach Mt Robert, but were unfortunately turned back by white out conditions & a late hour.
Once on the pad proper the going is easy, we just took a few wrong turns early in the day chewing up a bit of time.
The pad does fade out around the junction of the Gordon Splits & Marriotts Gorge tracks tho, further investigation next time :D
Anyone wanting some notes on this route can pm me.

Always nice to get into new territory (for myself & the game I guess  ).

Over to you eggs...

Pity about your weather. I have often pondered the top of Jukes and the small cirque lakes embedded in it.

Well if tasadam can pull one out of the hat!

I will give it to you Peter - but it was not just any boat.

You might say - it is the road to Tas!
I always love the fresh(cool/freezing) early morning views as it comes in to Devonport.

Thanks eggs - I guess it could have been anything from the Empress or the Princess, to the Abel Tasman or the Spirit of Tasmania. Whichever it was, I agree ... 'tis a grand view.

Okay, where am I this time?

Quiet day?
I won't answer this one - as I put a panorama up which covered exactly this view. Suffice to say it even has Federation Peak poking up in the distance.

I'll hazard a guess that it is on the Southern Ranges somewhere.
Pretty sure that's Adamsons Peak in the middle distance with Snowy / Hartz to the right of that in the further distance.
As eggs has said, Feds to the left distance & Bobs / Bobs knobs to the right of that.
This may help others (if I am correct in my assumptions thus far)?

I've never been to the Southern Ranges - though I would like to one day stu. I don't think you've quite 'Pict' the orientation of this one.

This may not have even been a walk. I seem to remember it was about 20 m from the car when I took my version.

Hmmm, yep, must be in dreaming mode, heading off to the Ranges this weekend (Alexandra & The Hippo) then back down there on the 28th for 8-10 days of leisurely adventure (or not so leisurely 1 day in particular as we'll be trying for Bisdee). Think i've had enough of work for the year. Sorry, I digress.

Not so familiar with drive & shoot views - maybe from somewhere on the Wellington plateau (not sure if everything lines up then tho?).
Anyway, a guess is a guess.

Your bowling is accurate enough Stu! Yes, I was on Kunanyi/Mt Wellington. Used the 10x zoom and pointed it at the Southern Ranges. It's pretty amazing what you can see from Hobart's back yard :)

Your go Stu,

cheers

It's amazing how your mind tircks you into thinking one mountain is another;
in this case what I thought was Adamsons is then actually VC etc.
Alwasy humbling is 'the game'

I have had quite a few guesses lately so I'll leave it open for anyone else to post :D

Looking like the south-west (no surprise from ILSWT), but maybe the western part. For instance is it near the end of Window Pane Bay?

It could be going down the big dunes onto Window Pane Bay, looking south. Just going to go look at my images from a recent walk to check...

Ah there you are Adam..... I did put that one up with thoughts of you.... your recent trip report has had me thinking of my most memorable walk ever. Had 6 Gorgeous days around the SW circuit, and a rest day at Windowpane bay which is the nicest beach I have ever been on.
there was one Sea eagle when we were there, good to hear he is still around!!

A truly truly wonderful walk with a mixed bag of good tracks, some off track walking, a little scrub and the odd creek crossing. Followed by a muddy bash back to Melalueca along the Port davey track.

Anyway whynotwalk got in first and it is indeed from the top of the dunes at Windowpane,

I was quite glad to read you found the day from Wilson to here quite a long day as it still rates as one of my longest/hardest days walking. 2 days later we walked from Noyhener to Melaleuca which was equally hard.
Nothing to see here.

Gives me another idea for a new game - Photo Snap (like Snap the card game).
Someone posts a photo, the first person to identify the location and post a similar photo, gets to post a new photo.
If the original poster says yep, close enough, then the replier earns a point.
No-one replies for 72 hours and the person that posted the image is deducted a point and has to post another (or forfeit).
The deduction of points is to encourage the game to keep moving.
What do people think?

EDIT - I think I will start a new topic for ideas for the Snap game, so don't reply here or it will just clutter up this game.

Well done, by the way, whynotwalk.
As soon as I worked out where it was I realised it was probably done for my benefit.

Thanks ILUVSWTAS - I remember getting in to Window Pane Bay very late and very shattered the time I went there. We'd walked in from SW Cape. But we had a couple of blissful days there, including checking out the wonderful Island Bay. Nice "snap" pic too Adam. Your game idea sounds good, but there may only be a small number of players.

cheers

Peter

It looks like the Mt Field area to me, but I'm having trouble - lake is too skinny and long for Dobsons, and the larger long narrow lake to the north of Dobsons is much lower in a depression than your photo.
I thought about St Clair, but that road on the left that continues on over the hill in the background would have it leading up the track towards Rufus, putting you near the pump house, But the shoreline of St Clair is all wrong.
So I dunno. Might keep my eye out for a clue.

tasadam - you are right about Mt Field.
You can see the day hut at Lake Dobson at the back - and the road winding up to the ski fields.

I believe the lake below is a man made reservoir.

It is in Mt Field NP, but Lk Dobson it ain't. eggs is giving a good clue, but you need to guess where I am, not which lake I'm looking at,
