WTB Spot Gen 3

Once an item is sold, found or thread is no longer needed we move it here. These maybe helpful for historic reasons.

WTB Spot Gen 3

Wanted to buy Spot Gen 3.
They are currently on sale at Snowys for $180, but thought I would see who may have one they no longer want.

I would really like a Garmin Inreach Explorer+, but wanting and affording are two separate things  I am aware of the limitations of Spot messengers,I have and will continue to carry a Kti PLB.
I am assuming others who may be more fiscally able than myself would also be looking to buy an Inreach mini or explorer+ and may be selling their Spot.
If so, I am your gal! Let me know what price you are asking.

Hi Ms_Mudd I still have this available if interested: $40 plus $10 postage if required: SPOT CONNECT Satellite Messenger. Some minor scuff marks otherwise as new. I liked being able to send a text message from anywhere to say 'All OK' (or whatever) and the real time tracking is good (loved ones can check where you are), but I just don't want to pay the US$ yearly subscription fee. Just to confirm: this is just a paper-weight unless you register it and pay the yearly subscription fee. However, once paid up you have a high tech PLB/Tracker/Messenger all in one. Device works in conjunction with a smartphone app. and works effectively anywhere on earth (well...not in cave, deep canyon, underwater etc, etc!).

Cheers Dreamer, I will do some reading on it and get back to you ASAP if that's okay?
Just want to research a bit more and see if I can track in airplane mode on my phone etc and just blue tooth when sending messages as leaving my phone fully on all day for tracking will drain it pretty quick.

I can put my android phone in aeroplane mode and select bluetooth/wifi/gps to be on/off as separate options.
However (you knew that didn't you) any transmission by the phone will drain the battery .. and bluetooth/wifi do have some transmission requirements .. less than the phone function but still.

I think the spot does tracking by itself - no need for the phone at all. You'd only need the phone if you want to connect to the spot.. say breakfast, lunch and dinner?

You don't need your phone on at all for tracking or emergency SOS...so it does not drain your phone battery at all. You only need your phone for setup, to start & stop tracking and for sending texts via Satellite.

Ooops, no I didn't know re: BT. I regularly use GPS in airplane mode and didn't know BT worked the same. Total blonde moment, my husband looked a bit exasperated explaining it to me, you were a little more patient than he was. lol
