Well on a serious note its cyclone season coming up, brutally hot here at the moment, monthly records for the region. We read 45 degrees the other day with high humidity, today was 43. This is January weather, not November weather. Apparently the BOM or some site lists 40.7 as the peak which had half the town laughing, we have never understood where they get their readings, inside an office maybe. Home aircons only dropped inside temps to high 30's the worst day and it was still 30+ late at night. I changed clothes 3 times sweating out. So much for a day at home, would rather have been in industrial aircon. Before the wet season hits I will air a lot of bushwalking gear out , especially textiles like tents and pack and get some things ready for storage. I moved my pelican 1640 mil type travel case out to clean behind it for the first time in 18months. The rubber tread around the plastic wheels have crumbled into black chunks and dust from heat expansion. I might ask them about warranty tomorrow, its only 2-3 years old. Btw thanks for this opportunity to bleat and complain Neo, the thread was quite timely.

Unfortunately Eungella is not 'lush tropical rainforest', though its a decent headline. Its subtropical type (about 600km south of us) plenty of room for air to circulate, much easier to burn and borders open forest to boot. We can burn here of course but usually its much harder to start and not as dynamic, the forest has wetland swamps and coast one side and mountain tops raining 300 days a year on the other.

it's a sad sight.Reminds me of Vic in 2009. But it's coming back now the forest seems to recover from natural events.....not so man made clear felling and the like.

Bitten by Ticks, Leeches, Mossies, March flies and Midgies all on my last walk.

That's not good, considering how you react to ticks.

No ticks, no leeches, only the mozzies to bother me. And a few people but that was brief. It's fun coming over the top of a mountain from the opposite direction to the track and seeing the looks on people's faces.
And then what I assume was a school group going in when I was toddling around on a daywalk after finishing the longer stuff - got a different total every time I counted, but there were at least 18 of them. *shudder*

Hey Crolly walked from Bells towards Anglesea y'day morn.
Very humid,warm and stormy, perfect.
No swell though, on the sand at 5.50 am to get the low tide not a soul in sight for most of the time humidity 95%, muggy thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening, Gali...., sorry I digress.
Coffee overlooking 'back Addis' at 7.30.
Walk/run back to the car by 9.30 , homemade sausage roll at Freshwater Creek and a box of smarties on the drive home, cricket and a couple of Invalid Stouts.

Had good success on a recent east coast group trip using Tick-tox to freeze the embedded ticks instantly then remove with tweezers later.

Bought myself this one, Tick-off, because the pen style looks better, was $20 fromChemist Warehouse. Used a fizzy vitamin container to cover the gas cylinder and prevent accidental discharge when packed. A quick touch either end with a 2mm grinder blade to make notches so a rubber band slots around.

A fairly laid back trip staying in Hobart for about 9 days - Mrs will be with me and she is not a bushwalker.
That won't stop me getting out for a few day hikes. Aiming to do a few things around Kunanyi that I haven't explored yet, including a circuit that takes in Thark Ridge. And I definitely want to spend at least one day visiting your beloved SW Mark. No firm plan but Mt Sprent has been on my radar for a while. There are also a few easier things along the road that I haven't done yet such as Timbs track and Welcome Rock.
