Maybe the bowl above Routeburn Falls hut.

My bid is for somewhere near Anne Saddle running down towards Boyle River, part of St James Walkway in the Lewis Pass area?
Mon 06 Jul, 2020 4:58 pm
Wobbly has it. Looking down to where the Route Burn jumps off the hill.
St. James Walkway is on my list but yet to get there.... closest I've been is Lake Constance and had tossed up pushing through to Lewis Pass but limited transport options meant i had to head back to St Arnaud.

I highly recommend the St James walk WFBW, 66 kms of fairly reasonable walking and the lure of a lovely soak in hot springs at the end.

I am on the Appalachian Trail.

Mt Washington. Coincidentally I saw this last week on an episode of an American railroads doco series I've been watching on SBS.
Some extreme weather has been recorded at the summit.
Wed 08 Jul, 2020 3:30 pm
Haha JohnW, you have an uncanny eye for trains.
Wed 08 Jul, 2020 3:37 pm
Yes it is.
There is a tradition for AT thru hikers to moon the train as it goes by. I didnt find out about this tradition until after I passed it. Here is the engine close up for you train buffs. Its a cog railway.
Wed 08 Jul, 2020 7:37 pm
Thanks norts. Similar technology to the Abt railway between Queenstown and Strahan, that method having its origins in the mountainous regions of Europe.
Probably the only practical way of getting up the mountain back in the day. I like the way they levelled the boiler on the loco to match the gradient.
Yes I'm probably a bit of a train tragic Greg.
Staying on the North American continent:

Yes Last, with some zoom. Quite a stunning location.
But if they took the big hotel away it would be far better.

Hawaii?
Fri 10 Jul, 2020 1:49 pm
Remiss of me to not say this is Europe. Not Hawaii eggs. Look at the horizon.
Fri 10 Jul, 2020 4:37 pm
The horizon was all I had to work on [most of which is topped with clouds] - apart from what might be volcanic rock.
I know there are lots of crinkles and islands in Norway?
Fri 10 Jul, 2020 6:10 pm
Not Norway eggs. Not all clouds either.
Fri 10 Jul, 2020 7:53 pm
Is it somewhere around Höfn in Iceland?
Fri 10 Jul, 2020 9:42 pm
You have the country right but not the location
Sat 11 Jul, 2020 7:50 pm
Looking across the Saebraut sea to a distant Mt Esja volcanic mountain range?
Sat 11 Jul, 2020 10:12 pm
Looks like Mt Snæfellsjökull at the end of that peninsular, but not sure where its been taken from.
Sat 11 Jul, 2020 10:38 pm
I think wobbly is close enough. I'm Near Akranes looking across at Snæfellsjökull
