sounds a bit like Yellowstone?

Sounds a lot like Yellowstone, but which bit?
I'll take the approximate location within that area.
There's a village down in the valley relating to earlier clues.

Well, we saw bears and ran into a big bison on the trail across the river south of Canyon Village, so I'll guess that.

You're in the right half of the park but this is a different village and trail.
Much smaller furry aquatic critters, and the previous military clue, hold the key to the answer.

And maybe furry elephants of long ago?

Beaver Ponds Loop Trail near Mammoth.
The clues are worth more than the photos. sigh

Not sure what that means

I guess you can only lead a horse to water?
And, yes that is correct.

Most of these places require one to have been there - or seen some travelogues.
So the clues become very important to track it down.
Interesting to see that you were around the 2000m ASL there, and Mammoth Springs looks fascinating.
Anyhow - next in Europe - what mountain is ahead - bonus for my location

- Mont Blanc from Tete Nord de Fours

Mammoth is actually a little lower in elevation than many other parts of the park.
We spent around 5 nights there and I found it and the rest of Yellowstone very fascinating.
I'd always wanted to visit YNP since childhood, and hope to return one day, if we're ever allowed to travel again

I'd say that's true of 80% of the international game photos. And most of us haven't been everywhere.
e.g. most of the Scandanavian ones do my head in as I've never been there, and there are a myriad of obscure fjords and other features.
But I research them as a form of mental exercise and often arrive at the answer, although it can be a circuitous route.
There was no shortage of clues in the last photo. It had a very clear skyline and I'm always happy to answer questions, but they are rarely asked.
Do we need a different format for this category to make it easier for people?

I don't know, but I''ll open the bidding with Mont Blanc.

Format is fine. Just need patience, time and lots of clues.
Except for this one. It is Mt Blanc from Tete Nord de Fours

I was 50/50 on it being Mt Blanc but couldn't pick the location.

I'm on an island. This is one of its major features.

It was my brother who many years ago brought home some striking images from Waimea Canyon on Kauai.
The images stick, but I still have to look up the name.

Waimea is a name that seems to feature a bit around the Hawaiian Islands. I remember we went to a luau at another Waimea on Maui. Anyway, yes this is Kauai's spectacular and interesting Waimea Canyon. As is the drive up there when you only occasionally drive on the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the vehicle.

It was my daughter who brought back this shot from Iceland

My research is telling me Gullfoss ("Golden Falls") in the canyon of the Hvítá river, southwest Iceland.

And that would be it John

Thank you eggs, there appears to be a lot to see in Iceland.
USA. Where is the other train waiting at the siding for us to pass?
And despite how it may look, I'm not driving the train

Is that Pike's Peak?

That was quick Last, yes, have you been up there?
Apart from the wonderful views and altitude sickness at the summit, I was intrigued that the train speedo never deviated from a sedate 9 mph all the way up.
Well, other than stopping to let other trains pass. Having a position close behind the driver gave me an awesome outlook.

Thanks John. No I haven't but I did watch a drivers view on you tube some time ago. Next. Europe

Looks an interesting place, I'll take a guess and say Hjorundfjord.
Sun 13 Sep, 2020 9:03 am
Further north
Sun 13 Sep, 2020 1:20 pm
Damn you Slartibartfast. Too any fjords and too many mountains. I think we need more help. Are you north of Å .
Sun 13 Sep, 2020 2:26 pm
Look at it this way Wobbly: the further north we go there is a proportionally decreasing land mass to search, as opposed to the S direction which would give us 9/10 of the #%$&@! planet to check over (disclaimer: quoted quantities are only approximate due to my lack of attention during mathematics classes). This pictured landscape has a particularly barocque look to it so its gotta be a fjord somewhere....
Sun 13 Sep, 2020 2:31 pm
So tell me Last, was this picture taken from a road or from a train or did you walk to this location?

yes, north of Å
GregG wrote:So tell me Last, was this picture taken from a road or from a train or did you walk to this location?
I walked here. Was staying down next to the fjord below.
Thu 17 Sep, 2020 12:26 pm
There's still very many possible answers, I cant find a picture that exactly matches the one you have put forward Last. I'll take another guess and say it could be around Trollfjord.
Thu 17 Sep, 2020 12:51 pm
You're not terribly far away Greg. Different island. All you can see is one island. At Trollfjorden I was unfortunately confined to the boat.
Sat 19 Sep, 2020 10:57 am
Okay lets try random island names

Is it Langoya? Only because I think you or someone else may have posted a pic from there before
