Not a necessity, but it's very helpful to get a bit more feedback when there's not much to go on - like what you gave nnw.
The game gets very boring when it goes on for days. As it may do again with one of 65,000 possible lakes in Tassie. :wink: Probably someone will come up with the answer now...

the background looks a lot like Hartz lake but I don't remember shallows like that in the foreground

I was inclined to think it might be either Esperance or Osborne but can't quite match it to my own photos.

I noticed the comment and link from Mountain Rocket. Great story.
That's a nice thought being able to help in a rescue.
Best I have done is help on some old pictures.
You would need really good sat images or have been to the place in question and taken lots of photos.

As for John's shot - it really looked like the edge - so maybe along a bit to Whymper Crags?
