Skirting Lake Sylvan
I think I would like to go over the Sugarloaf Pass on that route - weather being kind.

Correct. Lake Sylvan.

We modified our 5 passes route to exit via Lake Nerine and North Col, to leave via the North Routeburn rather than the more typical route out the Rockburn. This was to give options of a high route past Mt Erebus and Lake Wilson if the weather permitted.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

You were doing the 5 Passes - not the 3 passes.
Does that mean you went past Sylvan on the way to the Beans Burn?

Lets try naming this NZ waterfall/stream?

Looks like twins creek! From near the Arthus pass road.

We did do 5 passes: Fohn, Fiery, Cow, Park, and North Col!

Correct - view of the 115m metre falls on Twin Creek from the Arthurs Pass - Dobson Memorial

I presume you had crampons for that trip?

No. We knew that the typical 5 passes route was good to go at that time in that year, and had enough food/time to walk out in different ways if there were any snowfields to cross.

Still in NZ

Is that Mt Hutt up there in the clouds?
That would put you on the rakaia river.

yes, blue ice and sastrugi over the top of red crater in august, impossible without crampons, ran into quite a few people wanting to walk over red crater to see emerald lakes, no clue at all about the conditions, wearing street clothing and footwear...
