Yes It is in Marlborough sounds. Just wanting the name of the bay I'm in. I'm looking in a southern to SSW direction.

Thank goodness for NZ Topo. I've only been to Picton by sea and we must have sailed past it.
I guessed somewhere off the Queen Charlotte track and Kumutoto Bay seemed to line up with the map.
I'll find a photo later.

Is it the Peak to Peak cable ride in Whistler?

Yes Greg, travelling between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, doing some walking on both.
Would be the longest cable car ride I've ever been on. Over to you.

Thanks John

. I succumbed to temptation and saw that big fat question sitting there like a foaming pint of Tooheys Old on the bar counter on a hot day, just asking for it, with my better self saying "No no Greg, don't get sucked in, no one else has had a go and you know you don't have any pictures to put up if l are right". But there it is. I'll see if I can find something in the G family archives to put up.

I'm going to guess Gesege Airstrip (near Mendi), only because when I was there the lawnmowing crew were doing an equally thorough job of manicuring the grass.
Fri 08 Oct, 2021 1:29 pm
Uh huh, interesting Ribuck, I take it you were not there for pleasure. But no I was not at Gesege Airstrip although in the few times I gave been in this strip I can say the quality of the grass clearing is variable but nothing beyond the capabilities of a Twin Otter. You need to move to the south east.

Yes, it was for pleasure. In 1987 for walks/canoeing in the Lake Kutubu area, and again around 1992 as the start of a 12 day bushwalk through to Tari.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about the area to the south-east.

OK, three days on and it looks like it might be time for another clue: this location is a flat grassed area oriented in a north /south direction and measures 2805' by 147' and has an elevation of 1430' AMSL, its IATA code is KKD and it is quite close to Kokoda Village.

Kokoda Airstrip?
Sun 10 Oct, 2021 4:50 pm
It is indeed Kokoda Airstrip John. Thank you. You have the ball ....

Thanks Greg, would not have got it without the clues. I did think Kokoda initially but then dismissed it.
USA, where did we have a room with a view?

Might be some French influence around here, but it's a long way from Louisiana.
Wed 13 Oct, 2021 9:24 am
Are those steers or buffalo out on the plain pardner?
Wed 13 Oct, 2021 11:05 am
Nah, I think they're just bushes.
Wed 13 Oct, 2021 11:09 am
Are you somewhere in Colorado? I can't think of any French connection though.

North of Colorado Greg. French connection relates to the mountain range, commonly thought to be named by either French-Canadian or Iroquois members of an expedition.

This one is a bit different, not an actual shot of wilderness but this house belonged to someone synonymous with the outdoors in the US. It is classified as a National Monument . Who lived here?
Wed 13 Oct, 2021 7:12 pm
I suppose I should actually put up a photo.
Wed 13 Oct, 2021 9:14 pm

That is it.

The clue is in the description under the pic- especially if you say one key word in a drunken slur.

Is it O'Rourke Castle?
