I have much the same photo but struggling to place the exact location.
It's one of the lower tracks on kunanyi/Mt Wellington. There are a lot of those and I've walked a fair number of them pre-Covid.
In my photo series we visited Rock Cabin, Lone Cabin and Junction Cabin. I'm guessing we started from The Springs.
I'll guess somewhere on the North South track but could also be Shoobridge or Lenah Valley. I should document things better.

I’m trying to work out what that is sticking up in the saddle, below the bird but no luck there. Als a wire or something up to the right. Communication equipment?

Those things are just aberrations Graham. It was a very warm day and I think they're actually bugs that flew into the shot.
No wire here that I recall. Not Tim Shea but you're not far off.
