At least until it was burnt out. I must admit I'm not sure if burning this range was significant to natural rehabilitation or preventative to disaster but it was a head scratcher.

I think you are on the jubilee range

I was, and it was a wonderful day to be dive-bombed by a kestrel.

If I've identified the peaks at the back correctly (which is an Everest sized IF) I think you are probably somewhere on the Traveller, maybe even on Ida.

Nereus and that young lad is brave going through all the scoparia on Green Bluff with short sleeves.

I call him the Gladiator! It really was a much, much nicer trip than I was led to believe. Of course, not everyone picks the best time of year, with long daylight hours, the right amount of water around, not too hot, not too cold or icy for the boulders, perfect weather, enough days to make it enjoyable, and good company. Apparently not everyone finds the delightful rainforest to sidle through up the east side of Nereus, or the Very Steep but short gully through the cliffline, that popped us out nearly at the summit. It's not essential to suffer to visit Nereus.

Oh, and I think we missed a fair bit of the scoparia. The Scholar and the Gladiator have pretty good noses for that sort of thing.

If anyone else wants to jump in during the however long it takes for Optus to restore internet to Tassie, they're welcome. Otherwise I'll pop something up whenever they get it fixed.

Nereus is actually a good walk, and the forest - espcially the pandanus section - is wonderful. Our only issue was water beyond Macs and the heat. The wedgie up near the summit made up for that.

OK, back online. Something a little different, perhaps.

Yes, finding water can definitely be tricky. Our ideal basecamp for distance was the Macs/Green Bluff saddle. The guys got some not great quality water from the soak/potential creek, and I found a couple of excellent yabby holes. There was trickling water at the start of the creek off what some people call Urquharts Mesa (the plateauy bit below Green Bluff summit). There were oodles of full yabby holes in the button grass plain just before Nereus, and there was some in the soak that's the start of one of the creeks coming off the east side of Nereus in the rainforest. I wouldn't have wanted to be there with little water in hot weather. I like to enjoy my mountains. :D
We missed out on the wedgie, though.

*checks ListMap* Oh, that. Long way away.

This is part of something that is not generally considered a walkers' route, although it can be walked.

Is this in buckland gorge?

Interesting to read about recent nereus sojourn, I climbed that mountain a few decades ago ascending the Eastern face. The forest below is delightful.
I've noticed guidebooks talk about ascending over the western ridge. Seemed like a waste of time tbh.
