Hmm - I guess I should give you this one.

We had passed over the first peak of Schnells Ridge and were in the top basin on the way to the higher peak.
scrub master sent me a photo from his phone near here yesterday & Rolfe just added a lovely photo from the distant ridgeline under the Schnells Ridge track thread.

Weather?? - this was the very hot day last January where someone reported 40C going into the Denison Range - and we were suffering a lot in the heat on this particularly walk.
Goes to show how "misleading" a photo can be..

25 views and no guesses.
We can see Pindars Peak, Precipitous Bluff, Prion Beach & the Ironbounds
and below is part of Lake Geeves, but he is probably not on Federation Peak??
What do you think?

I've never been to the Eastern Arthurs so I don't think I will get this right, but there is a high point just SW of Federation Peak 1159m are you standing on that??
It is easier to go down a hill than up, but the view is much better at the top.

So - I presume this was a rock tower just off the Southern Traverse (ie between top of Thwaites Plateau/Hanging Lake and the Direct Ascent) ?
I don't think I could identify it by a spot height on the map as the photo is taken from at least the same height - probably from the actual Southern Traverse
- but I would certainly favour a point a bit west from that 1159m spot.

Edit: I think it is where I have ringed in this image I lifted from the web:
SouthernTraverse.jpg

The tower of rock high to its left would be the 1159m spot on the map.

Very close but not quite eggs.
What I was looking for was that I was at the base of Geeves Gulley on a prominence to the left (as looking down); this is very familiar if you've been there.
Sorry, not so many pics at work but the photo below should describe it better:
Lake_Geeves_from_Geeves_Gully_below_summit_Federation_Jan-69.jpg

Below is the view back from where I am to the head of Geeves Gulley with walkers descending:

Below is my approximate of the spot from the Cracroft Valley (tele-photo shot).

I think I'll open it to anyone to post the next one in all fairness?

On the high plateau between Hugel and Little Hugel - looking west across to the Cheyne Range?
That would make it Lake Hermione below.

PS - thanks for putting up those photos Stu.
You may be aware that I have been trying to nut out the Federation tracks on an aerial photo of tasadam's and I believe I can place your photo of the group descending Geeves Gully.

I did not consider that one too easy - though it certainly wasn't your hardest
But my first idea was wrong and it required some research.

Now that was a tough one....

I just happened to find the ridgeline profile in my Mt Murchison collection (after scouring the WA)
I think this was from the top of Mt Murchison looking down over the gully to the NE.

Well done Bap
I would say the only difference between your photo and mine is that I had a little more zoom.
It was from Herod's Gate - we were leaving the Walls about to descend to Wild Dog Creek.

That really emphasises how far south of west the sun sets - presumably mid summer.

Edit - hmm 3 main profiles - The ragged edge to the right looks Western Arthurish - which would make the prominent peak Mt Picton and the distant 3 headed peak left of the sun Federation Peak.
We must be pretty high up to see all that - but the near edge is very flat.....

Not much activity today?

Well I think this is from the top of Mt Wellington.
The profile matches my daytime pictures.
From the time of night - I suspect you may have had a vehicle.
