Once an item is sold, found or thread is no longer needed we move it here. These maybe helpful for historic reasons.

For those of you still looking for a supplier of Tyvek, it can be purchased here:
http://www.treco.com.au/products1.htm#tyvek It is Sydney based company. They have the Tyvek tape too. Quite likely you will need an ABN to be able to do business with them - a phone call (below) will establish if that is so.
contact Treco Steel
Address: 53 Railway St, Yennora NSW 2161
Phone: (02) 9632 6666 Fax: (02) 9632 9699
I got a carpenter friend to get me a roll a couple of years ago. It came from Jackfrid Enterprises/Taskmaster hardware in Clontarf (Brisbane), but a quick search could not find any contact details so maybe they have since folded. There seems to be a sister branch in the ACT, (ph: +61 2 6241 7477 ) - perhaps they can enlighten those who wish to pursue the matter.
Hope this is of help to someone. It is a great product, but not so great to make garments from if you are sewing them as the machine needles create perforations that then create a tearing point when under stress. This could be remedied by applying Tyvek tape over the seams, or simply just taping the joins instead of sewing them.
Cheers,
ABG

Or, to all existing requests, I am looking for a roll locally (Devonport), I have been given a list of five Devonport suppliers from the wholesaler.
It's jsut a time thing.
If anyone is interested in purchasing a roll before I get it done, please PM me.

Rolfe - 2 metres
recurveron - 3 metres
stgill - 3 metres
Area54 - 3 metres
ausrandoman - 3 metres

And cams is interested in 5 metres, there will be enough and I will contact you.
Getting close to finished.
Sorry for the delay.

It seems I made a stuff-up, overlooking one member with a request, going back a while.
So the current list is -
Rick - 2 metres
Rolfe - 2 metres
recurveron - 3 metres
stgill - 3 metres
Area54 - 3 metres
ausrandoman - 3 metres
pepperpots - 5 metres
Singe - 2 metres
capcam - 2 metres
cams - 5 metres
This totals 30 metres exactly, and the roll is 30 metres long. So in the past I have cut slightly over, this time I am cutting exact (as exact as I can) to get enough for all orders.
One other request received by PM will miss out from this roll.
I need a better system...

I still get a number of requests for Tyvek. I do not have any at the moment and I do not really have the time to do it any more.
However, if someone wanted to buy a roll and distribute per metre, I would happily discuss the process and supply the source of Tyvek (Devonport area), please PM me if you are interested in doing this.
The outlay is under $200 and it gets returned fairly quickly, as people purchase it.
There are two or three members with requests that I have been unable to fulfil.
Anyone?

Stay tuned, Tyvek will be available again soon...
Time to start posting here with your expressions of interests if you'd like some. Price etc to be confirmed, probably similar to last time.
Fri 08 Apr, 2011 1:36 pm
Yep! I need a bit that is 2.5 X 1.3 or bigger. How wide is the roll?
Fri 08 Apr, 2011 5:19 pm
The roll is 2.7 metres wide. A roll is 30 metres long, and for ease, it is sold by the metre.
So you'd need 2 metres and either fold it under, or do what I did and cut it off...

Hi Adam,
More curiosity but I may be interested.
I spoke to a local builder and got Bunnings-branded wall sarking, the alternative to Tyvek as a tent footprint for all my tents.
Looks like an old blue woven nylon tarp, coated and metallised on one side.
4m long x 1.2m wide weight 540g - say 110g/sq m (110gsm) I could get away with 3m, but double over the footprint at the front entrance to the tent.
How heavy is the Tyvek wall cladding? Comparable?
Cheers,
eddie

According to the
SPEC SHEET, a 2.7 metre roll 30 metres wide is 5 KG.
So that calculates to 166 grams per 1 metre long x 2.7 metres wide.
About 62 grams per square metre.
And no need to double over the footprint area at the door, unless you intend to fold it out and have a crinkly welcome mat.

That would make 3 metres exactly 500 grams. But the postage bag also weighs a bit, so the one time I squeezed 3 metres into a 500 gram prepaid satchel, it only just fit (physical size, with some clever folding), and it was about 27 grams over weight, but they decided to let it through.
It's a lot easier to fit 3 metres in one of the larger $10.70
prepaid satchels.
By the way, it won't be me distributing the tyvek this time, another local forum member has kindly offered to take on the job of volunteering their time and effort for the benefit of forum members.

Apparently I haven't participated in enough forum activity to be able to private message anyone, so can the kind member distributing the tyvek please message me her email address?
Minor moderation.

To the kind member distributing the tyvek, like "damo", apparently I haven't participated in enough forum activity to be able to private message you, so can you please send me an email directly to "dgfinch[at] bigpond.net.au" and I will supply address details.
Thanks again,
Damien

The original purpose of supplying Tyvek pretty much at cost to members of this forum was simply that - for the benefit of forum members. It seems Google has got this website firmly entrenched when it comes to the word "Tyvek" and we have seen a number of new members come to this site simply to purchase Tyvek.
In the past, we have not minded. However, with the increase of new members seeking Tyvek, and the new restrictions on the ability of new members not being able to send PM's (as an effective and necessary anti-spam prevention), please note the following change.
For ease of communication and to ensure the supply of Tyvek is to members who need it for bushwalking purposes, it is suggested that future sales of Tyvek will be available to members of this forum who have met the minimum number of meaningful posts to this site to qualify, thus also streamlining the communication between supplier and purchaser.
It is not being sold to make a profit, it is being sold to benefit the bushwalking community on this forum.
Please feel free to join the forum and participate.
This change will be at the discretion of the person supplying the Tyvek at the time.
