I generally find I never need to %$@# during the night. If I really did I would get out of my tent unless I was in cyclonic conditions. I have no problem with peeing in a bottle though.

Kneeling would work well. Even the side position can work as long as you make sure your dick is straight (Ive only done from inside a tarp to 'outside' when it was raining, not into a bottle)...

A friend of mine became so accustomed to using a pee bottle that he would use one in any season just to avoid getting out of his sleeping bag. Yes, he could even do it while lying down in his bag. I don't know how. But anyways, one time he did this and then fell back asleep with Mr. Winky still in the bottle. He awoke in the morning to a wet bag and much disgust and embarrassment.

As a woman I don't have a hose to put in the bottle but I have mastered the squat over a 1L Nalgene wide mouth bottle. Doubles as a hot water bottle when used. I also use a Whiz which is an SUP device and that means no bare *&%$#! in the bush! I'm investigating packing out crap as well. It's the most ecologically sound method.
