Group buy Amsteel 7/64 /whoopie slings

Postby Bluegum Mic » Thu 03 Nov, 2011 6:52 am

Hi all,

Ive finished making some whoopies and tarp ridgeline set for a friend and have run out of amsteel. Im going to buy some more and thought id see if anyone else needed any before I put the order in. Im not in this to make any money so it would simply be the cost of the amsteel plus postage to you (so long as the order isn't monstrous the shipping isn't much with arrowhead so ill wear the international postage as I was always putting the order in).

I've also discovered I absolutely love playing with amsteel so if you want me to make your whoopies just let me know. Im also going to make a couple of daisy chains for my hammock. No charge for this but obviously there's only so many I can do at a time :-)

Ill probably want to put the order in a weeks time so sing out quickly if you need some.

Cheers
Mic

I'd be in. I'd really appreciate if you could put some whoopie's together for me too? I'd like to give you some money for the work though. Not exactly sure how long I'd need them to be. I'd probably get some extra cord too. How much is it?

Amsteel Blue is a very high strength rope made of Dyneema SK75.

Link to Samson Ropes website about Amsteel Blue: http://www.samsonrope.com/index.cfm?rope=192.

It is used to make whoopie slings: http://arrowheadequipment.webs.com/apps/webstore/products/show/1099697.

You can buy whoopie slings made up but a lot of people like to make their own:

Hope this helps,
Michael.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thankyou Michael :-)

Cam it works out 22c a foot from arrowhead (ie $5.50 per 25 feet). To make 6ft whoopies you need 12 feet of amsteel. So that $5.50 will make you a pair of whoopies. It costs 21c per foot from redden marine but I've got to email them for a postage quote. Arrowhead charge very reasonable postage and are reasonably quick so we'll see. Redden marine however carry all the colours vs arrowhead only have grey in stock at present. If redden marines postage is reasonable what colour would people like. Green? Or stick with the grey.

I've got a pair of green whoopies, quite like the colour but I should have gone with a different colour each end to make it easy to know which end you are working with.

So, I'd suggest you pick two colours and buy half and half. :)

I don't mind purchasing two colours if that's what people want people just need to specify lengths when ready and if they need two colours or happy with the one etc. The only reason I won't be able to get two colours are if the postage rates from redden marine are ridiculous. Mind you DIY gear supply has green and black at 25c a foot. Their postage is cheap too.

So have a think about length needed and if one colour or two and post when ready.

Cheers

Hi

Great idea, they did this on HF a while back and I didn't get on the wagon in time....

I'd be in for 200 foot of whatever colour, Darker colour would be my prefference.

Just a guess but if we put in a large enough order with Paul at ArrowHead (Or who ever) I'm sure they might sharpen the price a little, no harm in asking once we know what sort of lengths are required in total.

Just about to fly out to NZ for two weeks though, Hope me being out of contact isn't too much of an issue.
I'll try to check in if I can.
Don't fly out until tomorrow night so will be able to check in until then.
I am a GEAR JUNKIE and GRAM COUNTER !!

There, It's out. I said it, Ahh I feel better now

I'm in. Can you put me down for 50ft. Colour doesn't matter.

Just let me know by PM the final cost, payment details (so I can reimburse you asap so you are not out-of-pocket for too long) and I'll PM you my postal details. Also, I am happy to contribute to the international postage cost as well.

Cheers,
Michael.

Hi Liamy77,

Unfortunately Im in Sydney so it might be a little far for a pick up...unless you fancy a holiday :-)

As a guestamate 20 bucks worth is about 200 feet (about 8 sets of 6 foot whoopies). Just want to clarify the set of whoopies you want me to splice would you want taken from that amount or on top of the 200 feet. Ill obviously PM you with details first but just wanted to clarify for my little tally.

Cheers

Right.

At present postage from the US is around 50-60 mark (so unfortunately I may have to pass some of that on :-( ). Ill give it a couple more days to see if any other interest. Plus there's an identical/very similar product dynex 75 that is quite readily available here. Im just waiting to here back from a couple of places though its still looking slightly more expensive at this point.

If I go with redden marine they sell in 600 foot rolls or by the foot.

Current orders are at 530 feet (not including mine but Im considering some red cause it goes faster ;-) Nuts did you want any/certain quantity?

Macca I apologise if you based your $40 around this.

Ok.

At the moment our order is around 600 feet. If we go with redden marine we can get 2 colours but the shipping comes in at 50 bucks which id have to pass some on. Total is around $176 for that order.

Otherwise if your all happy with grey then arrowhead is $156.

Choice is yours whether you pay around 23c or 25c per foot. Im happy to go with the consensus

Cheers

Hi corvus,

Thanks for the link. Its great to discover all the aussie sites. Unfortunately that stuff comes in at twice the price. I've tried to find an aussie source as I like to buy local but even direct from the importer isn't as cheap as the amsteel from the states. Shame :-(

I have though discovered some nice spectra line at binksonline in WA that I plan on getting some of.

Grrr. No international shipping. They said they would only do it if I knew someone in the states to ship to and they can forward it (so I think they are ruling out a forwarding company also).
