Hi there,
I'm trying to avoid sulphites...anybody in the same boat?
I guess I need to look into the dehydrate your own food option.
Does anyone know some quick sulphite free recipes for multi-day hikes?

if you are looking into the dehy option, then anything that you normally make at home i guess... otherwise, i would not have a clue...

I dry my own in a food drier and they last on 10 day walks. My menu usually consists of recipes such as Spaghetti Bolognasise, dahl, savoury mince with plenty of veges, beef stroganoff (either using mince or finely cut beef strips), Thai green curry, and others. I tend to avoid chicken because I am not confident it will keep as well but I could be wrong there. If you walk often enough the drier will soon pay for itself.

I) Uncle Toby's make (?made) "Simply fruit nibbles" which are great scroggin, packs of 35g sl chewy pellets made with concentrated apple juice, pectin and fruit, which are sulphide free. Can't always find them, and those I had from Coles last week are relatively short-dated and those from the IGA reduced to half price and out of date. Oh dear.
ii) Annies (NZ) all fruit bars are sulphure free. Not cheap either, $1 or so for a 20g bar. May be in Health Food, Snacks, GOK
iii) Farmer's markets particularly the poncy ones (Adelaide Showgrounds, Salamanca but one must hunt between all the stores selling scarves & stuff) often have stalls with sulphur free apple crisps, muesli bars, or fruit leathers.

If you are drying your own fruit you gcan give it a soak (45-60 seconds) in pineapple juice before draining and drying. I don't know how long that will keep because mine always gets eaten within a few weeks.
