Visiting Australia in April. Can Bring Gear from the US.

Postby ncharlier » Tue 06 Mar, 2012 11:45 pm

Hi, all,

I'm coming for a month in April, partly for a conference in Melbourne and also to walk the Overland Track. I will have some space in my luggage, so I could bring with me smallish gear items that would otherwise cost a lot in postage and/or be higher priced in Australia than the US. I'm thinking things like NeoAirs or American cottage industry packs, tarps, etc. I'm not looking for a profit, just offering the service as one hiker to other hikers. I will start in Perth, then will be in Sydney, Melbourne, Devonport, and I can always post items to other locations once I'm incountry. I leave home 27 March. Let me know via PM.
(Depending on source and model, NeoAir pads are from US$90-140).

Looking forward to a Vegemite/onion/cheese sandwich!

Nancy

Moondog--what color? How much Cholula? That doesn't take up much space. Or I could just buy the Nalgene and fill it with Cholula.
Doogs--no problem, but I will have to seal them in something, or they won't last through my flight. What kind of candy do you think I will fall in love with in Australia, then not be able to find when I get home? I'm partial to cinnamon-y things, and chocolate, of course. And sour/tart. and peanut buttery. Oh hell, I like everything. Boxes of candy are small--how many, and if I can get them for a significant savings in bulk, do you want them that way?
Stepbystep--Gore Vidal is on backorder, sorry.
Son of a Beach--yeah, the earliest date I could find for XTherm was 1st April, so no good. It looks very desireable and useful. amazing for the weight.

Green or grey, or one of each.
If you open the hot sauce you won't be allowed to bring it in LOL,
Do you want me to paypal you the money for a couple of Oasis canteens now? Don't forget to declare any foodstuffs when you fill in the customs/ASIS documents on the plane.
If you need a bed on your way down to the surf coast we have plenty of room on the floor here ( we are renovating so no spare bedroom.
I wish I had the money in my account for a new Patagonia Nanopuff in XL but I don't; still saving LOL

Moondog--
Good point about the opened cholula. Pay me when I get there; that means less money for me to change. As for the offer of floor space, I don't know yet, but I will keep it in mind. I'm picking up a NeoAir Trekker for someone, and I have some heavyweight Cuben fabric, too, the kind with diagonal fibers added. I may bring a few meters of that on the off-chance someone wants some. I had to buy 9 meters when i got it several years ago, and didn't use it all.

Cuben and silnylon would sell quickly, it is postage costs that stop more of use buying it. load up to your baggage limit.

Hi Nancy,
Do you still have room in your case? I just got my REI voucher :) and I've decided to change my clothing a little after all the rain and snow we had on the Overland Track.
Cheers,
Simone

If you still have time 4 yards of 1.1 ripstop nylon would be great

Along with 7 or so yards of the cheapest ripstop from wallys or wallmart =)
