Looking for Hervey Bay Bushwalkers

Hey, me and my family have recently moved to Hervey Bay. I am keen to join a Bushwalking Club in the area or maybe even create one if there is interest out there. I have search the internet without much success. Debslynne

Hi, I know your post was quite sometime ago, but I would like to be a part of a bushwalking club in Hervey Bay as well. I use to belong to a club in Bankstown, NSW sometime ago but when I moved up here there was no clubs. So I would also be interested in getting a club going in Hervey Bay.

Just reading your posts did anyone manage to start up a club in Hervey Bay? I am planning a trip to New Guinnea at the end of the year and want to do some bush walking as part of my training would love to hear from anyone interested in walks aroung this area

Hey folks, I've been here for six years - no bushwalking club, and it is hard to meet people interested. Firming a club would be a great idea, but how about we meet up for a day walk on a weekend soon, my Daughter is keen, something modest like 10 to 15 km. Car pooling makes it more affordable. PM me for a weekend during February

There are plenty of good walks within 100km of Maryborough. Looks like there are plenty of people around Fraser Coast/Wide Bay to start an informal walking group.

There don't appear to be any thing happening in Hervey Bay. Best bet would be to contact the Bundaberg Bush Walking Club. You might be best to go to a gym and tell the trainers you want a program to suit bushwalking and get out and walk with a pack on.

I am moving to Hervey Bay in January some time. I am more a local walker in most places I live. That is to say, I don't have the means to do big world trips and national circuits. I'm also quite reserved/shy - but don't mind small groups that are not focused on being professional or elite walkers. I do however enjoy the nick nacks associated with hiking and camping off track. I am a hammock kind of guy that likes to disappear off track and have been doing so a few times a year over the last few years with another friend.

I will travel some distance local to the region only. My interest at this stage is to find out what options are available locally. Both Hiking and Camping - I am looking into hammock stands, so I can still participate in groups with tents only at cars sites. There are some good rest areas I will miss in this region. I'm already using google maps and will further contact the local tourist information, however it will be hard to filter through all the touristy caravan and otherwise misunderstood use of the term "camping" among such services. Once I check out a place at Murphys creek called the "Murphys creek Escape" - There was a million caravans and everyone was camped on top of each other with TVs and music on loud and little kids running all over the place. Not my idea of an escape.

I also don't mind disappearing into national forests for a week end - arrange drop off and pick up for such trips.

The world is becoming too small with too many loud people - If you can handle my spin on such, then PM me or track me down though Flikr -

I'm thinking of joining the ABA - Archery, however I am not into shooting living things - and come to think of it, will most likely not gell with such types - that's actually a desperate move on my part.

Other hobbies include Astronomy (Stargazing) - Poetry, Drawing, Photography, Growing Food - Gardening and Walking. Also a bit of a PC Gamer - PLUS I am Non Religious - but Spiritually Minded and Very in touch with Nature.

Sigh ... Best bet is to join a local community center of some sort - might join some of the oldies in a writing class or something to that effect. Once I can give them a demonstration in how blissful it is to lay in a hammock the correct way, I might recruit some new hiking buddies then.

Your welcome to join me on my next bushwalk on Fraser Island, but it will not be till the weather starts to cool down, Fraser Island is very hot in summer, the sand reflects a lot of heat back to you and you don't get much of a breeze inland.

A good 2 or 3 day bushwalk is Cooloola national park. Start at Rainbow Beach head south on the beach to the light house, have lunch there and walk south again on the beach till you get to freshwater camp ground, the following day walk on part of the cooloola great walk to get back to rainbow beach. Its a hidden gem. Scenery is great. Some of the best colored sands, the beach, rainforrest and lakes, and a bonus the camp ground has showers.
It is a long walk, particularly if completed overnight, so you will want a very early start on day one. Also the coloured sands look there best at first light of the day.

Best to avoid weekends or holidays if possible, 4wd are crazy on the beach, theres a lot of idiots driving 4wd's today and they have very little respect for you on the beach.

Hi Im in Maryborough and just moved here 3+ months ago. Ill be doing an overnighter on fraser island on the 13th walking from Kingfisher bay to Mackenzie lake if anyone wants to join me. Only doing it to test and refine my load out and some new kit. Plus they have only just opened some of the track again.
