Hi Dan,

That Gipfelgrat is the shiznit for alpine climbing! Any reason you're selling it and not keeping it yourself?

Ive been looking at getting one of these but heard the zion's and felstrum's hood didnt fit the helmet very well?
I was looking more for a size small but if I could get away with a medium, then $400 is a bargain. How tall & heavy are you and how does it fit on you?

Hi Ninja! I'm 175cm and 60kgs. I like more room in the upper body so I can layer. I don't do ice climbing or alpine climbing so the slimmer cut of the Gipfelgrat may suit you more. Especially if you're after a small to start with. I think it was designed for use with harness. Otherwise the jacket is AWESOME. Perfectly made... you're welcome to come see. Or I can put up more photos. The hood on the Gipfelgrat is definitely helmet compatible. Big. The flap in front gives good cover. You can really see the Swiss's attention to detail and the practical well thought out features. It fits me well except the slim cut.

*If you think I'm selling it too cheap I can raise the price....*

Hey Dan,
Thanks for the additional pics. Bummer that you're keeping the jacket as I was keen on getting it off you. Your sleeves did appear a tad long so maybe small might still have been a better fit for me.
Cheapest I found online was $450 - 10% off + postage so roughly $450 delivered. I ended up getting the mountain hardwear version of the waterproof softshell with DryQ simply because of the colour.
oh well, thanks anyway. I'm not really keen on the zion.

I'm very curious why all your gear seems to be mountaineering orientated (rab summit, atom LT, gipfelgrat) yet you do not climb. I assume you just enjoy collecting mountaineering gear & clothing?

Hi Ninja,

The reason I don't climb is I only got into hiking / backpacking in cold / snow weather this year. All my previous hiking experiences had been in non-snow enviornments. E.g through tropical jungle to Razorback in the summer. The equipment is sooo different as I'm sure you know. I might even do a short course in alpine climbing. Gotta go join some uni bushwalking / alpine club I guess. I got the Rab Summit (my first real tent) cos I like the "weight to bombproof" ratio. I found the tent really impressive. I feel really safe in one. My previous tent was a $40 kmart tent. (still great). I've already been out to the snow a couple of times already this year. Guess subconsciously I'm gearing myself up (pun not intended :) for a different hiking experience and gaining confidence in the cold & snow.
