Hornsby to Brooklyn 2 days

Postby mattburga » Wed 03 Oct, 2012 8:24 pm

Hi

I'm looking for some advice on a camping spot if I hike this section of the great north walk over two days.

I wasn't sure if bush camping was actually permitted in the Berowra waters regional park...

At first I simply wanted to do the walk in reverse like http://www.david-noble.net/blog/?p=1542 but I don't know the area well enough, so think it unwise to attempt to follow the track notes in reverse.

Thank you

The National Parks people I spoke to, recommended I not attempt the over night walk on Friday owing to the heat and fire restrictions.

I picked up a great north walks book, so I now do know where bush camp sites are along the track.

Seeing as it cooled down a little I walked today (Sunday) Hornsby to Mount Kuring-gai in 6 hours 20. I got lost once before crosslands (sp), and found the steep climb up to the princess hwy along the access road pretty hard.

A good training and learning hike before I attempt the 2 day trek to Brooklyn.

HI Matt

Great work. Guess you found the campsites, some pretty go ones there.
Hope teh GNW book is helpful.
Here is a slower paced version of what you are looking at
http://www.wildwalks.com/bushwalking-and-hiking-in-nsw/berowra-valley-regional-park/hornsby-to-brooklyn-three-day-walk.html
that might be of help as well.

Enjoy the next stage

Matt :)
