Just completed the section between Cape Otway and Ryans Den, (Sep 2012), didnt see any other hikers over the three days, we were all alone. We did book and pay for sites at Aire River and Johanna Beach but could have easily camped for free at the drive in sites that are very close although Johanna Beach GOW Campsite was amazing. Rainbow Falls on Station Beach was not worth the time and effort.

We're heading off in a week and a half....I 'spose it's pretty muddy after this wet winter? How were the tent sites TheWaz?

There were a few muddy parts on the track but nothing to worry about and could easily be walked around. The camp sites were all fine, dry as and no probs. Hope you have a good walk Kimbo.

Thanks Waz. We had a great time. It was exactly as you said, muddy in parts but walk aroundable. We drank straight from the rainwater tanks with no probs. The only thing that bugged me was at Blanket Bay where those who had driven into the public camping spots had fire places provided but us poor walkers just had 'no fires permitted' signs. It was a bit cold and drizzly so it would have been grand to stand around a fire for a bit. We didn't realise at the time, so if we were there again we'd probably try and snaffle a public fire place.

There was something I'd never seen before on a Victorian walk...at Eliot Ridge campsite we saw a few bullants on the bench so we shone our torches to the ground and there were 4 or 5 small black scorpions scattered around. Each were about 20 to 30mm long. I made sure I gave my boots a good check in the morning before shoving them on!
