Camping near Shoalhaven River

Postby odnuas » Thu 15 Nov, 2012 6:30 pm

Quick question for anyone familiar with the Shoalhaven river below Tallong. I have camped many times at various sites along the river by accessing Long Point lookout or the Red/White trails up in the gorge. Does anyone know what its like downstream for good campsites when taking the Badgery's Rd track down to the river? I'm thinking of taking a walk down the Badgery's lookout for a change.

Thanks

David

There is a good campsite a few hundred meters down river from the base of Badgery's Ridge and another about an hours walk upriver, also on the same side of the river as Badgery's.

Canoe Flat, which is a few hours down river from Badgery's, is also a beaut campsite.

A good campsite can be found about 30-45 minutes down the river from Badgerys. Don't cross the river - keep to the Badgerys Side and at one point you need to scramble over a rocky outcrop on the waters edge. Camp not that far beyond right on waters edge. Hopefully it is still there as floods do change things.

There are lots of good campsites up and down the Shoalhaven River in both directions. There are some excellent sandy beach sites upstream on the south bank about half way between Long Point and Badgerys. Great swimming holes too. You can always take a lilo and float down till you find a campsite and walk back. The walking is relatively good both up and downstream for several km. You will need to cross the river if you go more than a few km in either direction.
