NY resolutions

Postby andrewbish » Tue 01 Jan, 2013 8:24 am

1. I will stop obsessing about gear.
2. I will find out about the #%*! thick vegetation BEFORE I go.
3. I will take more food, not less.
4. I will take my wife/kids on more hikes - it's fun!
5. I will not pitch my tent on exposed mountain tops 'just to see what happens'

Both of those sound like very sensible NYRs. With regards to 2, I'm going to make more effort to find walking partners before taking on any more walks that involve scrub bashing. Solo, it's just not fun, not even to look back on.

"Do it now!' has been a NYR of mine for the last 5 or so years and designed to overcome my tendency to procrastinate (munyana for our Spanish readers) and with even a 30% success rate, it's made a significant difference (avoiding late payments fines etc). :) But now I'm beginning to realize that things like bushwalking are not getting any easier as you get older and not to keep putting off doing long and hard walks or it may not be too many more years before they get out of reach. The wisest advice that the old have ever given the following generations is 'You're only young once'. By the time you get to your mid 60s, it's time you started to take notice :!: :D

Nothing major for me, apart from the idea that if I can think of it, I should just do it.

Just like the whole Nike slogan.

I spent the better part of the past few years making excuses as to why I shouldn't, or cant do things.

So, for me this year, its as simple as, if I want to do it, I can do it, and I will. :)

1. Eat better
2. Drink less (or at least abide by the rule that life is too short to drink bad wine. Or eat bad cheese for that matter)
3. Improve my fitness
4. Sleep more
5. Procrastinate less
6. Worry less
7. Reduce clutter
8. Tell my husband that I love him more often
9. Quit my job and become an itinerant fruit picker for a while?
10. Remember this is the first day of the rest of my life, and it might also be the last day of my life, so make it count!

Happy New Year everyone

NY resolution rule
make no more resolutions
they only lead to failure

OK as long as it's in reference to drinking more quality wine, and trying more quality cheese
