Ti Willa Plateau and Cambage Spire

Hi , thanks for previous helpful information. We are deciding on future walks and have a couple of questions:
Are ropes necessary for descending and ascending Cambage Spire (have read other posts but still not clear in this) and
Is the undergrowth passable on Ti Willa Plateau - previous posts describe it as being difficult to get through.

No, you don't need rope for Cambage Spire, Bushgirl. But if you're not accustomed to basic rock scrambling, or are a bit nervy with mild exposure, you can double a handline around the base of a tree for security. It is not really vertical, more a very steeply inclined slope, so even if you do slip you probably won't fall far, and what's a few bumps and bruises when you're out in the bush having so much fun. The undergrowth on Ti Willa Plateau is belts of mallee scrub. You just have to work your way through and around it. A bit of effort is required here and there, that's all. It's called "scrub bashing." Good luck.

Thanks Juxtaposer, we're not averse to a bit of scrub bashing and Cambage sounds fine too, looking forward to some good walks, just have to choose which to do first - so many places to explore and so few free weekends. Thanks again!

There is more than one route off Cambage Spire - the one often described is not the easiest, but it offers great views and some interesting scrambling and some exposure. A handline is useful for passing packs - and aiding the scrambles if you are inexperienced or uncomfortable with exposure. However, there are easier routes to the right hand side.

If you end up going across Ti Willa plateau can you post something about it (or PM me). A friend and I are planning on doing it in April and I've never done it although the scrub sounds thick. Years ago I came up Cambage Spire - scared the pants off me! I don't think I could do it going down now - not keen on heights. Great Stoney Mt offers an alternative off track route to get down/up from the Kowmung. Need a compass and/or GPS though.

Will certainly let you know how we go - we've decided on doing Ti Willa first. So many great walks to do and only so many weekends - Cambage is next on the list and I appreciate your info on Grt Stoney Mt. We're taking some rope in case we need it on Compagnoni Pass for the packs - hopefully we'll find it!

Hi LAMEA-Gals, we just did Ti Willa (Gingra Track, up to Compagnoni Pass then to Cloudmaker etc). I can't seem to PM you. Scrub is not a problem, it's mainly open-ish bush on the tops but do wander down through the banksia at some stage to see the view towards Cloudmaker, it's fab. A bit of rope was good for the packs up the Pass as I don't like climbing up stuff with a pack, and also didn't want a pack on my back while on the ledge at the top of the chain, but that's me. I was glad we went up the pass rather than than going down, due to fear factor (but again that's just me). Was a wonderful trip.

Yes Bushgirl also having similiar PM problems...grr. Anyway my questions are

- did the track coming from Te willa join the main Cloudmaker track at the scruffy rock trig point on Cloudmaker (we are planning on walking from Kanangra out to Cloudmaker and head out to Hundred Man Cave returning the same way).
- was the junction to a Hundred Man Cave obvious - the map shows the main Te Willa track passing very close by.
- also how long did it take u to get from Gingra/Kowmung Junction to the top of Cloudmaker and how high was Compagnoni Pass (ie about a 5 metre scramble)?
