Hey nnw, were you passing through New Pelion, then camping up near, or on, Ossa on 14 Feb this year by any chance? I got back from Oakleigh early that arvo and said g'day to a woman who was around the hut, who did not acknowledge my presence as I walked by...the next morning she was on Ossa with full pack and looking for a way off to the sou-west (probably hoping to get away from the 20 or so other people that climbed up...)...being ignored didn't bother me as I felt some understanding, liking solitude at times...especially when there were so many people crowding about the mountain top (and the hut the previous night, which is another story...)!

You were the young chap at New Pelion when I dropped in? Thought I recognised you up on top.
Actually camped at the Gap. Did Pelion East in the evening, and went up Ossa via Doris. A word of warning: If you ever want to get to Paddy's Nut from Ossa, DON'T go the way I did.

btw, I wasn't just being rude at the hut - I really didn't hear you say anything. Ossa was different, there I WAS just being a *&%$#!. It's a great little mountain when you have it to yourself, but the crowds ruin it.

If I'm going to get a tat, it'll be the old AAWT symbol. Simple, distinctive and a bit dorky. Perfect for this place.

Aaaaaw, c'mon, it'll be grouse. It's a great design, and you don't have to plaster it wall to wall on your backside, after all. Just a small tat on the back of the hand.
Y'know, I'm starting to think seriously about doing that. As long as they can do the yellow . . .

Well that’s kinda cool, passing a forum member like that and actually confirming it. I didn’t bother to say anything on Ossa coz I felt you wanted your solitude anyhow, coz I thought at the time that you had deliberately ignored me the previous day at New Pelion Hut. On Ossa I believe you were psyching yourself up with a little self pep talk though...don't worry, I didn't think you were crazy  :)

Actually, I too was after solitude at that point, which was impossible with all the people that had come up...the previous afternoon I had moved my stuff from the campsite into the hut, just to experience an Overland hut, and about 30 or 40 more people rocked up through the arvo and evening...there was a snoring competition between Frenchmen in the room I was in...despite getting away early the next morning, I spent too much time in the forest photographing things and generally taking my time, so then most of them caught up and over took me. They were the fellas hogging the summit...that was my fourth day on the track and the first time I had run into a big crowd, apart from when I had climbed Cradle before I had left...I climbed Pelion East that afternoon, and had it all to myself.

Trying to decide which way to go. I often find it easier to think through navigation if I slow down the process by talking to myself.
Of course, I still tend to make the wrong decision. That morning was a case in point.
...don't worry, I didn't think you were crazy

You should have. I am.
...climbed Pelion East that afternoon, and had it all to myself.

Yeah, fortunately it doesn't get a lot of traffic, yet it's a lovely little thing. Some nice camping up there in calm conditions.
...despite getting away early the next morning, I spent too much time in the forest photographing things and generally taking my time, so then most of them caught up and over took me...

You probably got more out of the walk than they did, though.
Similar thing with me. Started early enough but climbing over Doris took more time than I expected, and then I sort of went up part of the boulder field the wrong way - always do that, it's the third time, now - and spent so long exploring the rocks up top after hitting the high point that everyone caught up.
Still, I didn't see another person until nearly at Frog Flats three & a half days later. :D

Iv'e met probably 20 forum members, all seem ok in real life. I probably wouldn't wear a badge or anything otherwise i'd just grab a t-shirt or whatever. I'd say again if someone wants to design a logo I'm happy to put it to the admin, don't let the introverts (or whatever affliction that is) sabotage the topic.

(four summers based at pelion, them and 'superior' experienced walkers are a dime a doz, easily spotted by their scowl  And if escaping the lesser crowds means camping at Pelion Gap or on Ossa, how about keeping that to yourself? )

How about just a small flag type logo we could hang off a tent / tarp guy line, back of the pack etc.
Just a small 3-4" green triangle with the forum logo.

No ones forcing people to use one, but for those that wish too they can. I'd be happy to display one.

A small cloth patch to sew on a pack would be good.
Isn't there already a forum logo? The URL with the boot prints?

Just grab a bit of cloth, whatever size/shape suits you, and trace/copy the logo from the top of this page onto it (or perhaps just one boot print from the logo). Attach it to your pack, tent, whatever, in any way that suits.

Very flexible in how it can look and how it can be applied, and cheap as chips - just use a piece of some old T-shirt and a permanent marker, perhaps.

People could also print/write their forums name/handle on their little 'flag' too, if they wished.

Hence why I suggested a short length (10cm) of yellow cord looped around the shoulder strap. Cheap as chips!

That'd be the go. Maybe fabric that doesn't absorb water to save on those grams :) ...

I'm with Strider. On everything. I'm not going to bear a grudge if a fellow forum member ignores me in passing; you didn't go out to run into me so why should I expect you to be excited about it? I'll probably be dying of exhaustion and unable to speak anyway.

So, yellow cord works for me but I'd take a patch if there was one. And if its not too crap.

Now we should schedule a meeting to elect a committe to determine if indeed the consensus is
that an idendifier could be developed to be followed by subsequent discussions to determine the appropriate shade of colour, location, size, logo, all chosen or recommended by seprate committees in each case ............or .............as Strider suggests we could wear a 10cm or there abouts yellow cord or strip tied to a shoulder strap. Works for me!

Yellow ribbons get tied to an aggressive dogs lead to prevent people coming near that dog, so that can't work. Obviously..!!

I think a small plastic tag that has a single footprint boot logo on it (or the whole thing?), with a hole in one end, that we could buy. We could then attach that to a pack, or tent, or pin it on a jacket etc with a yellow cord (best supplied together)
You've then got the flexibility to attach it to whichever piece of gear you're using.
It needs to be neat and stylish, not some huge garish thing flapping about. Fellow forum walkers who are so inclined would know what to look far. Others would not even notice it.

There are a bunch of options, if a printed tag, how about a clip whistle, thermometer or something: http://www.vividpromotions.com.au/wrist ... 5_299.html Iv'e done some pad printing, not sure who councils use for dog tags but some of the cheap offers might have a poor result outdoors.

A yellow pastic self attaching loop style dog tag would work.
what about this type? http://www.petregister.com.au/tags/arti ... et_id_tags

Or do you think a flat style tag with a hole (string loop/carabiner etc for attachment) is better
Printers may have a stockist? Does anyone have any contacts? I only know the engraved pet tag ones.

I did think of wrist bands, but sleeves would cover them up
Still, it's a simple option
You could always clip one onto somethign else with a 'biner

Thanks for the link. It doesn't seem like this style of tag is removeabale though, which defeats the whole purpose of a tag.
So maybe a flat dog tag or armband may suit better

Nuts, the vividpromotion had a few promising styles - what about a the one with a whistle http://www.vividpromotions.com.au/wrist ... 5_299.html - multipurpose (as long as the whislt isn't rubbish). It doesn't say if they come in a differnt colour besides black - we'd want it to be visual, and so the logo stands out
http://www.vividpromotions.com.au/wrist ... 5_299.html red blue black and silver with coloured laser engraving. inexpensive
Domed epoxy ones http://www.vividpromotions.com.au/wrist ... 5_299.html. I like these.

Or the armbands http://www.ozibands.com/

How many do you think we would need? Hmm, and then logistics of ordering and distrubution - best to have something via the web site.
Suggestions anyone?
Lol I have to get back to packing and tidying
