Tarptent Scarp 1-2 footprint

Postby Franco » Sun 05 May, 2013 2:08 pm

Stepbystep expressed an interest in having the groundshet of the Scarp 1 transformed into an attachable footprint so that it can be deployed with the tent.
This is a very easy mod to do with the Scarp 1/2 and several other shelters like the Rainbow/DR and Moment and Notch .
Just attach some shock cord to the corners and clip that onto the mitten hooks at the bottom of the Pitch Lock corner.

Just for the exercise I attached the shock cord using a piece of tape , you could add some tape there and punch in a grommet if you wanted a neater finish.
My mock up floor was for a 2 person tent so it is about 1/3rd larger than it should be (the Tyvek is folded in on one side) but still fits inside the stuff sack if you fold and roll carefully.
Note that I do it by gathering all of the struts at one end and then roll it in using the cross pole from the other end (the middle of the tent fly)

Nice one Franco, now I'll just have to stop complaining and try and make one!
Thanks for taking the time out to give it a go.
Do you think some gaffa tape on the corners with a hole punched through would do the job? I'm wondering what tape would bond with tyvek for some time.

Apparently awesome stuff too. Gets a really good report on BPL.

I did the corners on the right side by hot glueing the shock cord to the Tyvek and then i put the tape on top.
That was about 5 years ago but have never used that in the bush, just fiddling in the backyard.
putting a layer of Gaffa tape on both sides of the corner and then punching a hole through it should be good enougth for the purpose.
The left side (today's effort...) is this :

it's rough but it does hold.
make sure that you have the footprint loose so that is not in tension particularly on eneven ground.
(any floor when in tension will puncture much easier. That is why the balloons at the country fair are only half filled with air and hard to puncture with those dull dart tips)

lol good point, shall do. My current footprint has tyvek cut to the size of one footprint so may attempt to replicate that shape.

Sorry I meant cut to the size of one vestibule...

Neat. I've been meaning to do something like this, plus enlarge the footprint so it covers the vestibules. Good to know that cloth tape will work.
Thanks.
