On April the 27th. 2011 I was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
From this day my world turned upside down, 14 months in hospital, 7 in Tasmania for intensive Chemotherapy and another 7 in Melbourne for a Bone Marrow Transplant.
I was a very sick boy. I was given a 40 percent chance of making it through treatment.
You never think it's going to happen to you, I was very fit, I had just finished the Kokoda Track actually, very healthy and a very active bush walker here in Tasmania.
I regularly took my family walking in the remote areas I could get them to!!
After all this I nearly didn't make it and was told that the amount of treatment I had meant I probably wouldn't walk again. Well that was true for a very long time.
But I never gave up and I never gave up reading this forum!! You guys have helped keep me motivated for over 2 years. Sitting in hospital with my laptop listening to your
adventures and admiring your photo's. I just never gave up wanting to get back there. Most of you don't know me and never will. But I know you and I want to thank you for
helping me keep focussed all this time. You as Walkers are my extended family, likeminded people who enjoy the outdoors.
So to reward you I just want to say that on the 23rd to the 26th of June I took my family back to the Bush!!! We walked from Lake Dove Cradle Mountain on the Cradle Mtn Circuit
Staying at Scott-Kilvert Hut, then walking to Barn Bluff the next day and on the last day walked out via lake Rodway, Artists Pool, Twisted Lakes and Lake Hanson!!
It was just beautiful, not a cloud in the sky for three days!!. I wont say I'm back, but i'm slowly getting there!! Hows that for a comeback!!
Thankyou all and keep posting!!
