Mt Barney - Logan's & SE Ridge

Are there any landmarks I need to bear in mind both during the ascent and climbing down?

I have never been there before so I want to get an idea of what is involved to make this an enjoyable hike.

For logan's - stick as much as possible to the absolute crest of the ridge and you will be fine. If a detour around a rock locks like the easy path, it probably isn't - stick to the ridge.

SE is well worn - not likely to go wrong on it.

One thing, is there a marked track from Yellow Pinch car park to the ridge?

No but the route from YP to the ridge crosses private property. The landowner is fine if you ask him, but he gets angry if he catches you and you haven't been in contact with him. You should be able to get his details from the NP Ranger.

From memory from yellowpinch:
- Across the creek
- into the paddock (private property) on the other side, up the hill till the old vehicle track
- or skirt the paddock by staying inside the fence until you get round to the track where it is in the forest.
- follow track up till it turns dramatically right - continue straight ahead up the ridge in front (not much of a ridge at this stage).

Has anyone been up Logan's recently? I was wondering about the tree one has to climb (I'd rather not to that to avoid damaging the poor thing). Is there an alternative way of accessing the slab after going up the chimney (based on the info available)?

Went up last year, the tree was there.

We used the tree, but I remember thinking 'what is all the fuss about' for this point. If you are a reasonable climber / scrambler you will find a way up without it no problems.

I am a very environmentally conscious person (which is why I asked this question). Thanks anyway!

We will try to find an alternative route to climbing the tree.
