Snow levels - Main Range/Cascade Trail areas

Postby Ellobuddha » Sun 17 Nov, 2013 8:05 pm

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has been up on either the main range or Cascades trail areas in the last few days/week.

A group of us are looking to do a walk/camp next weekend and are trying to decided between these areas.

Can anyone advise on current snow levels? Ive looked at some websites but info is limited. Any decent info site links appreciated as well.

Cheers,
EB

There will be no snow around the Cascades area (unless you get an rare overnight fall), and a few drifts here and there up high around the peaks. Those drifts Should not affect your hike, you can walk across a hundred metres or so of snow easily if need be.

More important is to watch the weather, be prepared for all possibilities, and also be on top of your navigation.

For more detail about snow up high, call Thredbo information - there will be scores of people walking up to Kosi every (fine) day this time of year.

Good luck

One of the sources I use is the Hydro snow line data which gets updated weekly - usually Thursday evening. Currently shows no snow at any of the 3 sites monitored. There is a link to it on the BOM Australian Alps weather page under other information (top right).
