Half day walks near Narooma

Postby Eremophila » Sat 04 Jan, 2014 9:13 pm

Have an unexpected trip to Narooma coming up, will be spending 5 days there. Wouldn't mind doing a couple of day/half day walks - any suggestions for what's good in the region? Preferably not too far from Narooma itself.

Just came back from camping at Mystery bay which is 20km south from Narooma and there are a couple of good hiking courses to try. See this link to start with. http://www.eurobodalla.com.au/walks/

Thanks Jason, that's great. Mt Dromedary and the Bingie Dreaming Walk are both looking pretty good :D

Mt Dromedary is good. If you don't mind a little travelling Bournda NP has some nice walks. Mimosa Rocks NP has good scenery, but only very short walks but you may enjoy just walking along the beach.

I have heard good things about the trips to Montague Island, though a bit pricey.

Thanks, turns out we are only there for 4 days so I'll try for Mt Dromedary one day and perhaps the Bingie track on another day. With some golf in between!

The course at Narooma is a cool. Well worth the windy walk.

From Dalmeny, if you like beach walks, you can walk North until you sight Pigeon House and the Castle ... on a clear day. On a Clear day you can see Pigeon House from Dalmeny . Start the walk from the foot bridge near the Dalmeny Caravan Park.

Glass House Rocks are fascinating. When you are on the beach below them, you'll get the drift. The walk starts at the back of the Cemetery in South Narooma, at the corner of the fence beside the maintenance area.

As already mentioned, Mount Drom' is top, and a good hike, when the track isn't wet. If the track is wet, approaching the summit can be as-slippery-as and somewhat slow going. There are spectacular moss covered tors on Mount Drom.

On the Mount Drom' Track ... Gulaga to the locals.

Walking to the mouth of the Tuross River at the lakes entrance is beautiful.

There is a good walk from Pooles Beach to 1080 Beach. Good secluded campsites too. Lots of sea birds. If camping, top up your water in Mystery Bay before you head out. The Northern track to Cape Drom', Pooles Beach and 1080 Beach, is 2WD and off Lamont Young Drive, about 150m past Negus Road.

There is also an excellent cycle path between Narooma and Dalmeny. It crosses Woolgonga inlet. The cycle path is a hoot.

phsculpture, I'm pleased that you like the shots. I've been keeping my eye out for info on your trip, here.

I did a bit more of the Great South Coast Walk last week, again in Eurobodalla Shire. I keep adding small bits to the GSCW route ... like the anfractuous path of an ant building a jigsaw.

Sea Mist and smoke (presumed to be from the fire burning near Cooma) at dawn ... Glass House Rocks.

Duesburys Beach ... facing into a strong Southerly.

Montague Island Light ... from Handkerchief Beach.

Late afternoon, Yabarra Point.

Thank you Dave.

When I get inquiries about what are the good sections of the Bicentennial National Trail to cycle, I always refer people to your Widden Gallery ... and I tell them to slow down and look up.

Cheers Mate.

Great photos Warren. You inspired me to check out more of the far south coast, normally I spend my whole time on the coast in the water surfing. Went for a walk at Wallagoot and checked out the gap, beach and cliffs. Beautiful and nice and protected for a swim with the summer NE'er howling. Hoping to do Mt Dromedary ASAP.
