Airly Ruins

Postby Allchin09 » Thu 27 Feb, 2014 7:39 pm

Has anyone visited the mining ruins at Airly? I was reading that they could possibly be subjected to damage, so I want to check them out whilst they are still around!

Looks like an amazing place. What is the Airly ruin exactly?? Is it associated with the area in the photos??

I only heard of it a year or two back and have been meaning to spend a few days up there ever since. I believe a local landowner runs a camping area in the vicinity.
Peter Medbury's done a lot of exploration in the area. His Dingo Gap site http://www.dingogap.net.au/ has lots of photos and accompanying short descriptions. First item on the 'Development' drop down menu.

Thanks for reminding me about Peter's site. It's been quite useful in the past, but I forgot about it this time.

Mining is now proposed under the ruins, with subsidence up to 1.8 meters expected. See http://www.colongwilderness.org.au/node/539
