Where to buy Polypro (or similar) fabric by the metre?

Postby dee_legg » Mon 21 Jul, 2014 9:37 am

Hi All,

Hoping someone might be able to give me the link/number/address of a store that sells polypropylene fabric (in a stretchy jersey knit) by the metre. I've tried searching google but all I seem to get is gardening supply shops or retailers in the US.

I'm going to try and sew up a simple sleeping bag liner that will be warmer than my silk one. If all else fails then I will resort to buying a thermolite liner from Sea to Summit but I will try to avoid this as I am a poor student.

Thanks guys!

Dee

Don't know where to get it by the metre but you might convert an Anaconda blanket into a liner fairly easily.

Polyester may be easier to find than polypropylene and one simple way is to buy a single bed fleece sheet set from K-Mart if they still have any in stock, failing that check out your local Spotlite store to see if they have any LW gridfleece left in stock.
Is warmth the greatest priority ?

Also if weight and bulk isn't a problem I may have enough LW pile here you can have for $10- plus postage. Only problem is that it is an awful salmon pink in colour

Thanks all! Some good ideas there. I went to spotlight but nothing there seemed to fit the bill. Moondog, I'd be interesting in what you have. Do you happen to know a grams per m2? I'm not too concerned about weight or bulk within reason. Colour doesn't bother me at all!

Thanks again!

The section I have here is 1550 * 2700 [ I must have got it to make a winter liner as that is just enough] and weighs 825grams.
205GSM
It is slippery Nylon on one face and a short nap polyester on the other, you would sew it to easily enough by hand
PM me your address and I'll get it sent to you

Couldn't find the link but found it on eBay - microfibres polyester liner for $16 invcluding postage. Sorry couldn't copy link on ipad- too complicated but search sleeping bag liner if interested.

Dee_legg, I am a bit late with a comment, but it might help others. I have purchase cheap polyester fibre pile at Darn Cheap Fabrics. It is usually very cheap, but you have to be ready to accept outrageously bright colours ( no matter for me as i am colour blind in the eyes).

@ dee_legg
Do you still want this fabric, I just found it all wrapped up and ready to post
If not I'll keep it for my car-camping kit and sew it into a liner for my Swiss Army bag to give it a few degrees more warmth
