That's a lot of great photos as usual Dave.
A fantastic pictorial account of much of what you will see during a winter traverse.
I went in to Pelion Hut for a few days the weekend just gone and it rained Friday night a fair bit, and Saturday night a LOT. We thought about Oakleigh as well, but the torrent that was the Arm River track on the way in suggested what you found in that creek crossing.
Good to see you made it up Pelion East - We tried on Friday but couldn't get up the rocks on the chimney, they were covered in ice and it was WAY dangerous, so instead we sidled round to the east side. Then it snowed on us.
That Windy Bert hut looks like it would be cold - all that head space, the heat would go straight up and stay there, no wonder it is hard to heat.
Yes those "pink things" on the rocks are either a fungus or a lichen, if I think of it when I locate my book I will attempt to identify them, they are quite common.
One thing, do you think 22 degrees is a little excessive?

We went up the Douglas Creek to those falls as well, they were a lot fuller for us.

No swimming? Gee, why not?

*Are those snowshoes or toboggins?
*WR/BN Hut actually does warm up quite easily after a slow start, it does retain some of the heat during the night also (just).

It's quite a hike from the kitchen to the bunk rooms too, which keeps you in training for the next day's walking.

Yes - have to agree. I think we went a bit overboard at our first coal supplied hut. And I hadn't used brown coal before. The brickets were in good condition and left nice air gaps - so they burnt really strongly. And the flu must have drawn really well.

In contrast - at Pine Valley - the flu did not draw at all well on one of the days - and it took a few goes to get the fire going. I used a few short bits of bike inner tube as fire starters - they normally burn well, but in that stove they just went out. A full broadsheet page of newspaper (Sydney Morning Herald no less) went out as well! Once going - we used the stove to dry out a lot more kindling size firewood for the next time. It was quite a windy day however. Next time we lit the stove it went fine.

The Echo point stove is good - and we lit it well - but it ever got really hot - but it is a small hut - and it was quite warm.

The huts with the gas stoves never seemed to get hotter than 13 degrees - but that was fine, and it was warmer near the stove - and they did seem good for drying wet socks and boots.
