Best walks where I can catch a train to

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. My first thread and second posting in here.

I am seeking a list of ideal bush tracks of which I can start from a railway station.

Any railway station that I can use a MyKi to reach, including V/Line ones too.

Criteria I would be most interested in,

++ Begin the walk from the gates of the railway station
++ May use township footpaths to reach.
++ Strictly no shared routes with roads. that is where I would need to walk on the road with cars or on an unfit shoulder.
++ May be an advantage to use a MyKi bus to reach?
++ Prefer somewhere with at least a milk bar at which I can buy limited supplies for the journey.

In the short term, I would be looking at only a short walk with perhaps a picnic ground within a few hours of walk.

Longer term I may be interested in a camping hike too.

Train to Upper Ferntree Gully walk the 1000 steps then walk to Doongalla via the myriad of fire tracks and return.
Same as above walk right through to Montrose and catch a bus to Croydon for the return trip.

There are walks that you can access via public transport, but I reckon that you should consider joining a bushwalking club. There's a list of clubs at Bushwalking Victoria

I'd start with ones that meet close to you and match your demograpics. For example, the Mildura Transgender Walking Club is probably a good one to miss - too far from Melbourne.

You could take a train to Belgrave and then walk up to Sherbrooke Forest via Monbulk Rd or Old Monbulk Rd. There are plenty of tracks to explore and a a couple of picnic grounds including Grants Picnic Ground which has a cafe.

V-line train to Ballarat. Great Dividing Trail starts at the Railway Station. You can walk all the way to Bendigo if you like, or other towns with v-line access. For a day walk, train to Ballarat, bus to Creswick and then walk via the GDT back to Ballarat station.

Check out the ballarat rail trail. Its about 50km. Goes through forest and through small towns. Even pass s through a free camp with hot shower s and water.

You can catch the train up to Mt Macedon; there is some nice walking there, especially now in spring.

Not strictly a railway station, but the bus to Warburton (from Lilydale Station), puts you at the bottom of the trail up to Donna Buang.

There is a walk that I do. Leave from Upper Ferntree Gully station, up the 1000 steps then follow the road to Ferny Creek. From here walk to Kallista (Grants) and then do the East Sherbrooke walk and at the bottom head into Belgrave and catch the train back. takes about 4 hours.

You can get a train to Stony Point and then a ferry to French Island. The ferry waits for the train so you can always get it with no waiting. There are some walks there and also a campground 6 km from the ferry terminal. You buy the ferry ticket at the local milk bar there (about $20 return).

I once caught a train from Adelaide to Melbourne, a train from Melbourne to Wangaratta, a bus from Wangaratta to Mt Beauty and got the driver to drop me off a few kms out of Beauty where I walked for a couple of kms along a public road before I hit the walking trail. That was day 1 of an 11 day walk that ended up back in Mt B. at the bus station.

It can be done if you're keen.
