Thanks overland man, I've been watching the weather forecasts all week. As you know anything can and does happen. I'm trying to get a feel for how much snow is on the plateau. The last time I went many of the trail markers were under the snow and I post holed from the hill just past marions all the way to down the back of cradle. I wouldn't mind some snow but not sure if I'm up for anything epic.

It certainly melted quickly. I wonder though what it's like up on the plateau. Does anyone know? Pictures? I'm visiting Cradle V. next week (Wednesday onwards) for some day-walking luxury. I'll bring along micro-spikes, just in case, but if I knew that the Plateau had lots of snow I would bring snowshoes too to have some fun with.

Haven't been up for a week or so but will likely be nine parts gone. Doesn't hang around long with +ve temps and a few showers around.

Thanks Nuts. I thought as much, particularly as the temps will be rising into double figures. Still, it will be nice contrast to life here in Brisbane: your maximums are our minimums.

There's a change coming through Thursday it seems, a mostly sunny, partly cloudy.

I doubt there will even be ice- lot's of nice cold mineral water around though, and free! haha

How long does it take for the Franklin at Lake Dixon to drop once the precipitation ceases? I've been looking at the Gell/Cheyne/Hugel/Rufus circuit but the river crossing concerns me.
And, for the record, I'm aware of the Hydro's river level site, but while the rainfall graph is up to date, the river gauge shows no activity for the entire month, so I'm guessing it's out of action.

I'm not sure why I think that Collingwood R. gauge is usually high and dry? records above a certain level..? i don't recall seeing it, someone told me, read about is somewhere perhaps.
Iv'e not been over to Lk Dixon, it's not far from the Canal Road to turn back.. The lakes iv'e seen recently have been at noticeably, relatively low levels. Good luck, we'll call you bobbi otherwise  looks like a good circuit.

Yeah, I should have gone for it, yesterday the Franklin at the highway was low enough to walk over without getting wet feet, and the weather mostly good. Still, the alternative was not a bad few days work. :)

+ 1
I have mentioned the Anglers Alliance web cams to staff at Cradle Valley, & how good they are.
Cant believe we are still getting this message on the Parks Dove Lake web cam,
"The Webcam is currently offline. We will hopefully have it working again soon".
Been offline since June, well done Parks :?

Hard to believe, but there is a dusting of snow on Cradle Mountain this morning,
down to below the face track, cold & windy down on the coast,
looking at the anglers alliance web cam, the central plateau has a white covering as well.

Even Mt Wellington has snow half way down it right now...

Pity - I was up behind Cradle on the weekend, would've been good to have a bit of snow!
