NBW HUT (AAWT) Advice...

Postby darsenator » Sat 24 Jan, 2015 8:57 pm

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone in this forum has done the track/hike to the NBW HUT.
I'm wanting to give this one a try and although I've got the roof tops topo-map and I've being able to work out the UTM co-ordinates......from what I can tell it's going to be some tough bush-bashing.

So I'm hoping I can bounce of any past experiences that could perhaps make finding this hut any easier.

I suppose one question would be, does the hut still exist today ?

best regards,

I've never been there but these links may help you.

This from the 1st link
Leaving the Australian Alps Walking Track and veering to the right we contour through light bush until we reach NBW hut

Sometimes, I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Thank you for the links...the PDF map shows the track to be about 500 meters after the mushroom rocks...so this gives me something to go by..

I recall going to "Spion Kopje near Gentle Annie" and that was quite overgrown but looks like this track will top it...

I have been there but it must be something like 10 years since I was last there. You left the AAWT where it began to climb up after Mushroom Rocks. There was a faint track heading off. I'd have no idea if it's still standing.

That link from Darsenator was written in 2011 and it's still standing in the photo.

I found the hut last spring. I had been there years earlier but could not find the track this time.

It was a bush bash to find it. Good luck

Hi all
Just a gentle reminder about publishing specific location information about off track and sensitive areas. Please use the PM facility to share this kind of information directly with people you are confident in - this helps avoid the forming of new tracks and damage to the areas.
Thanks
Matt :)
