MYOG Inner for Duomid suggestions

Postby kitty » Sat 07 Feb, 2015 8:43 pm

Im considering making a solo inner for my MLD Duomid. Solid 3 sides, mesh on the door side, T zipper.
Im new to MYOG :)
Does anyone have any suggestions (other than "dont do it"), advice or a pattern that I could follow?
Ideally I would like specific dimensions or a pattern so I dont have to "re-invent the wheel".

I have the MLD mesh inner net, but three of the walls are made from one single piece of mesh so I cannot get any specific dimensions from it.

After reading a thread on BPL about making a Duomid inner, I downloaded google SketchUp and came up with the dimensions in the picture.
I dont need the floor/tub as I already have that part. The tub is 75cm wide, 220 long and 10cm high.

For the wall materials I was thinking the Argon67 and mesh from Tiergear and for the zipper YKK#3.

Has anyone been-there-done-that and have any advice or tales to tell?

Kitty, I understand what you said about three walls being cut from one piece, but I think it should be workable to get starting dimensions and perhaps make a pattern or a dummy from paper or old sheeting from shop.

If the original is pitched, you have the corners and the peak as definites. With the help of an extra pair of hands, it should be workable to gently put tension on the ends of the non existent seam to create a broad but visible line between those points. While being held in that position, put small stationery bull dog clips along the eyeballed "seam" line. If this works OK, repeat for the other "seam" lines, carefully un pitch and measure, using the lines of clips as reference points. I don't think it would need many clips along each "seam" for you to pick up a line. Some dressmakers marking chalk would be handy too.

I would then do some sort of mockup or pattern before cutting into anything pricy or hard to get.

Good idea BTW :)

Thanks Stry,
Im going to try that - extract dimensions from the original. I initially wrote that off because of the lack of seams, but I can see what you are saying - the dimensions are still there.
Then I could get some cheap fabric and make a pattern.
Cheers, kitty

Another way to get the measurements could be to lay the inner out on a big flat surface, and using a straight edge, draw chalk lines from the corners to the peak. Then measure using the chalk lines as references.
