Cairn/Trig at Mt Polblue summit in Barrington Tops Plateau?

Postby paul8 » Mon 23 Feb, 2015 11:34 am

Is there a cairn or trig at the summit of Mt Polblue - 2nd highest peak in the Barrington Tops Plateau?
I climbed it a month ago. It is very flat at the top hence I was not sure where exactly is the actual highest point . And because of the thick scrubs, I can't see far, and hence not sure whether there is a cairn or trig there .

Polblue (TS6023) shows up on sixmaps (https://maps.six.nsw.gov.au). Coordinates are S31 58.282 E151 26.805. Doesn't mean there is any structure still there though.

The map shows one there, but that was 40 years ago.

I may have. Cannot remember. Must not have been anything notable about it.

The NSW SIX maps show TS6023 Polblue at (approx): -31.971395,151.446704. The peak is un-named on the SIX map but it seems to be the right location.

Looking at the SIX maps in satellite view mode there is an obvious line through the trees from the nearest fire trail to the trig location.I did zoom in on the aerial photos and there is a white dot which could the concrete base (or it could be an anomaly) of the trig. Still anyone's guess if there actually is a cairn or trig there.

I also looked it up on the geocaching Australia website but they didn't have listing for this TP.

Cheers,
Michael.

Moonan Brook map shows a Geodetic Station, so presumably there is something here. I can't really see the point as they would need to clear a lot of scrub to get a sighting, but they are put there by the government. See also http://sbw.ozultimate.com/wiki/199912 and search for Polblue.

All of the above is correct. The SCIMS lists it as a concrete pillar installed in 1978. So you would be looking for a concrete pillar about 1.5 odd metres tall. I can make out something on the imagery on the LPI SIX site at the location (coordinates above).

That is a great write up about your walk. I'm glad you were able to find the trig.
