Wilsons prom. 1.5day walk

Need a weekend away. Plan is to leave after work friday, land in the prom around 8pm-ish. Likely camp at tidal river.

From there we would like to leave around midday sunday. A mostly easy-moderate walk, both of us a relatively new to hiking (but have done plenty of bike touring) As such still pretty useless at guessing what sort of distances we travel. - Hence asking the question.

How far off are the park's guides to times? It looks like the 'east prom circuit' should be achievable with our timeframe.

What are peoples thoughts on my ramblings?

Your trip sounds good and it should fit in with your times. Also this time of year they don't have the shuttle bus up to Telegraph Saddle. Otherwise i would have said to hike out via Oberon Bay. As its nicer than the 4wd track up the centre of the southern section.

The times seem to be spot on. Even being a fast walker. I seem to spend awhile taking photos along the way and getting there when they say i will. Take thongs or sandals too for the river crossings. There will be 2 along the way and depending on the tide they can be quite deep.

Tongue point via Darby Saddle and the Darby river is a good day walk , so is Sealers' cove and back. I am quite sure they run the shuttle bus on weekends up until Easter. That means you can visit Mt Oberon and /or walk a circuit via Oberon bay as a long day on Sat.
You could do an overnighter pack carry hike to Oberon bay. There is water in a tank at the dunnies there now.

We were planning stay at a friends at inverloch on the friday - parks wants $56 for a patch of dirt for the night!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get our permit from parks at 8.30am. park at telegraph saddle. walk to refuge via telegraph junction/little waterloo. and then back out on sunday via sealers.
My mate is a little worried about biting off more than we can chew with the estimated 7.5hr
So we are thinking doing an out and back to roaring meg via oberon bay from tidal. I don't like the back bit, but it's probably a safer option. Given our lack of hiking experience.

Do I need to plot the route in my etrex for wilsons prom, or are the trails well enough signposted? I haven't been outside the main area's around Tidal River.

Do the circuit and stay at Refuge, that will be a much nicer walk and camp than roaring Meg. As long as your both fit you shouldn't have a problem making the distance. If your struggling stop at Little Waterloo and then walk back out the same way, otherwise keep going and complete the circuit.
The Prom is a great place to gain experience and you won't need your gps. The trails are Highways and you will have no problems following them. Have a nice time.

Between my mate's apprehensions (and his knowing of my habit of biting off more than I can chew) we are staying at roaring meg.

If all goes well and we will be back down there in a few weeks and do the loop as planned.
