Lake Eildon - Lost Boy

Hi All,

I'm sure everyone has heard about the lost boy near Lake Eildon. I can no longer sit at home and do nothing. Anyone interested in going on an overnight hike starting tomorrow to assist in the search?

Have you considered joining BSAR? They're usually involved on searches and you'll get get training necessary to be an asset rather than a possible hindrance.

I see this morning the ses have asked for ppl not to help join the search as it would complicate things. ?

After witnessing how the search was organised, unfortunately I suspect they will run out of luck. They need as many people pit there looking and all they're doing is turning people around. I met a guy there who drove up from Melbourne yesterday morning as well, in the end we bush bashed for 4.5 hours. If it was my child I would be horrified to see how it was managed. The organisers didn't even know what a PLB was.

There was a piece in the Age, saying that there was an unconfirmed sighting along a 4WD track yesterday. Let's hope they find him alive. It would be quite cool up there tonight and I believe rain is on its way too.

You a talking about very well trained and highly experienced personnel in a very disrespectful manner.
Leave the job to real experts.
The last thing they need is a bunch of weekend warriors and cowboys creating extra logistical problems.

Take a breathe mate.......cam_mcd was just like you "airing some disappointment" in his case after travelling up to help and being told he wasn't needed.
Looking at the news reports I think the biggest problem they had was thongs, shorts and tee shirt clad campers "helping out" not experienced bushwalkers offering assistance.

Most importantly it is wonderfull news the little bloke was found specially with the weather starting to turn ugly.

I highly recommend getting involved with BSAR if you want to help out with searches in the future. I volunteer with the walking clubs in Tasmania and we get called out every time that the police need further assistance. We receive training through the clubs and from the police as well. It is great to have the training behind you so you can be of assistance.

Really glad to hear the boy has been found alive and relatively well. What a relief for his parents!
