I just came across the Mountain Hardwear HyperLamina™ Spark 35 and it looks like an awesome bag but I can't find any in Australia and their site doesn't seem to list distributors.

Looks nice but the comfort rating is only 5C.

5°C rating for 788g seemed to be pretty mediocre.

To be fair the most commonly quoted rating from the EN testing is the T-limit, which is 0C in this case. Sure a down bag/quilt or a synthetic quilt would be more weight efficient but this doesn't seem too bad for a synthetic mummy bag. I'm not sure who imports and sells Mountain Hardwear in Australia but it shouldn't be hard to find out and contact them to ask if they are importing these bags and where to buy one. My main concern is that for the likely price you could find a deal on a nice down bag.

As long as I keep my feet warm I'm a pretty warm sleeper plus I would be using a thermal liner in winter which would give me around a 0Deg rating which is fine for what I would be doing.
Also I am quite lazy and will no doubt end up with a wet bag due to lazy pitching, poor site choice, rubbish tent etc etc and the reduced maintenance of synthetic appeals to me too. I am 15+kg overweight so there is no real point looking for a 100g saving here or there with my gear, it's like fat people that buy carbon bikes, pointless!

I quite like the design of the bag myself
I have always preferred the centre zip and my reading of the specs says that it is cut large enough in the shoulders and chest for layering inside; in other words the bag is aimed at climbers or at least it seems to be aimed at mountaineers and ski tourers. To compare it to my Thinsulate summer bag @ ~700g for a ~12C rating it looks quite light

Mountain designs used to sell Mountain Hardwear in Adelaide but don't anymore as they sell Berghaus now. Not sure if other states are the same. I also saw some Mountain Hardwear pants in the Scout Outdoor shop in Adelaide this week so they may be worth a call as well in case they still stock it.

Adventure MegaStore is currently carrying Mountain Hardwear clothing and luggage products. No sleeping bags though.

This is an insanely light bag for what it is. Compare it to a Sea to Summit Trek 1, same 0C rating and that weighs 830g and is a down bag. Sure this is far less versatile due to the shape and zip configuration but it definitely approaches the warmth/weight of a good down bag with all the advantages of synthetic.

Ooops, yeah sorry I went OS so I am now too poor to afford things that aren't necessities so this has been forgotten about for the short term.
