Splendour rock circuit

Postby paradza » Mon 29 Jun, 2015 8:40 pm

Fellow bushwalkers.
Planning a bushwalk mid July.
A circuit that takes in splendour rock.
3 days. Reckon about 60k.

Keen for input if its a feasible proposition. Particularly the scrambles down and the walk along the rivers.
Down narrow neck. Turning at the fire tower to Garlon head. Then scramble down to a track leading to bell bird point. Feasible?
Scramble down the ridge line to breakfast creek. Feasible?
Along breakfast creek then down cox's river. Feasible to rock hop? could take packrafts. Needed?
Than up yellow pup ridge, splendour rock. Which I Presume is accessed via dingo gap?
Back to the cars via Tarros leader. Done that bit as part of K2K.

Thanks
paradza

You will see another thread on the Carlons Head ladders/chains, which are no longer safe/passable. Could be done with a rope I suppose?

Down the Coxs from Breakfast Creek to Kanangra Creek junction is pretty straightforward river bank walking- you would probably need to cross numerous times.

All feasible. But see Clarence's comments re Carlon Head (Mansons Ladders).

Went down Carlon Head recently via the chains. The middle pitch is a little dodgy as a few of the lower spikes are missing, but it's do-able if you're confidant as there are plenty of hand holds. Bringing some rope to lower heavy packs may be of use however.

Descent from Bell Bird point is possible. Breakfast Creek doesn't have enough water to make use of a pack raft. There's a track down its length but it crosses a good 40 or so times along the way so be prepared for wet feet. Splendour Rock is best ascended from the junction to the West of Mt Dingo. A walk back to Narrow Neck along the tops north from Splendour Rock is good fun. See - http://bushwalkingnsw.com/walk.php?nid=804

an alternative to descending Carlon Head would be descending Redledge Pass then following firetrails round to Bellbird Ridge
