Down skullcap - Pros and cons?

Just came across this down skullcap on Massdrop. Looked nice but I wondered about the utility of such using down as the primary insulating layer. Fine for camp but not when wet or when one sweats a lot. Not exactly cheap either.

What are people's thought on this? Worthy piece of equipment or hardly worth it for the limited application?

I have a Blackrock down beanie, which is similar. I only use it for snow camping, and would only use it if not active. It is lovely. A hood on an insulated jacket probably provides a similar level of warmth, but I don't always like the "closed in" feeling of wearing a good. I reckon the down beanie would have little use when active, due to sweat dampening the down. I use a normal beanie during the day, and it usually gets damp, so it's nice to have a cosy warm down one at night, and the extra weight is bugger all. Similarly, I use down pants and booties at night, both of which are impractical for any daytime use.

I also have the Black Rock hat/beanie, and agree with andrewa.

I do find that I can often wear mine during the day, perhaps because I usually don't sweat heavily. I also usually, but not always, carry it as an extra.

As above I have the black rock. I would never use it by day (I would convert my buff to beanie mode for that). But I always use it around camp and to sleep in..especially if hammocking in cooler weather.

I've got a PHD one from the UK, fab around camp and for sleeping in, I rarely walk with a beanie but I found on my last trip to the Grampians I could stuff the down beanie in my pocket and retrieve it quickly when I stopped. Well worth having.
