ID Please?

Postby pazzar » Fri 02 Oct, 2015 6:52 pm

Is anyone able to ID this flower for me? It was found in the Nobs/Mt Clear area on the ridge top. I've managed to ID everything else from my trip, but I got stuck on this one.

Not 100% sure but I think it could be Bluebell (Wahlenbergia luteola)

G'day Pazzar ,
Looks suspiciously like one of the many Sun Orchids we have here ( perhaps Thelymitra nuda) cannot really establish which one from that pic but something for you to follow up on :)

Thanks MickyB. I had just narrowed it down to a Wahlenbergia, I wasn't sure which one though. I thought is could also be Wahlenbergia ceracea, but I think they would be a little paler in colour.

Thanks Corvus. I don't think it would be any of the Thelymitra family, as they don't grow at very high altitudes. This plant was found at around the 1500m level. I've seen them in flower up around Rocky Cape. Beautiful flowers.

You could be right Pazzar. I didn't look at the distribution of W.luteola either so I could be wrong. Think we've got the correct genus though.
