The BEST Bushwalking food blog

Postby melinda » Tue 24 Nov, 2009 5:11 pm

Hi all,
Check out the following link:
http://dehydrated-food.blogspot.com
It's run by a young woman who likes to eat yummy, healthy food when bushwalking.
It's the best site I've seen.

Thanks for the link Melinda;
I haven't had a chance to read all her blog but at a glance looks very inviting & delicious :D
I'll print it out & have a look over the weekend;
anything to get away from those horrid 'branded' dehyd meals from camping stores;
I haven't been able to stomach them for some time after surviving on them for 8 days in the Arthurs a few years back;
sure, they provide the necessary sustenance, but after a hard day taste is also a major factor, something I find these lack, they taste so artificial.

When doing long multi-day walks one of the things I look forward to most is a delicious dinner; no need to punish yourself unnecessarily.

I've found the following site also has some good ideas / recipes (& so convenient to cook in a freezer (zip-lok to us Aussies) bag).

Cheers.
Stuart.

Hi Stuart,

Food is a big thing, especially on extended trips.

Marcelle's site is very good.

I've seen the site you recommended also. It's a good one too.

So is:

http://campingcookbook.blogspot.com/

Have a look at the section on "Cosies" in the above link. Haven't tried it but I saw some body using one recently. It sure seemed to make life simple.

Needless to say all this interest in dehydrated food relates to the fact that I bought a Dehydrator recently before an 8 day trip in Kakadu.

Had to get the weight down somehow!

Cheers Melinda

Cous cous + packet tuna + cheese, every night for a week. Yum!

Actually, my flatmate has a dehydrator, and I've been thinking of trying it out for an 8-10 day walk over summer. These sites are pretty useful, nice find!

A dehydrator is a worthwhile product to request as a Christmas present + a cook book if you are that way challenged.
