[WTB] - Womens down sleeping bag

Hi guys,

I'm chasing a high quality down sleeping bag for my sister as we are planning a PCT thru-hike for next year.

In the effort to keep things lightweight, I am hoping for something <1kg, with a comfort (not limit) rating of < 0C; it can get a bit cold in the sierra.

She is 5"8' so a slim men's bag may also do the trick. Budget ~$300.

Please let me know what you might have.

Enlightened Equipment have a sale on right now.. less 15% on all on the shelf items.. most thru hikers use quilts and good R value mats now.. sleeping bags are a waste of weight carrying down that does nothing

Hey mate, thanks for the advice.

I had an EE Quilt for a while but wasn't a fan of quilts for low temperatures. As a thrashing sleeper (my sister is the same) drafts were pretty much impossible to control. So I'm looking for an enclosed bag for that reason.

I have a bag that may suffice. It's used but in good condition, kept in a big bag, non-stuffed way, no moths, etc. The bag brand label has worn, but the logo looks like an M. The bag specs are:
2030 mm long
670 mm wide at the shoulders
tapered
box foot
box wall construction
about 80 mm of loft for the top and bottom
in a stuff sack it weights 1050 grams on the kitchen scales, should be close to this.
blue outside, yellow inside
stuffed size is 270 mm by 180 mm diameter.
There's no zip, saving a bit of weight and making the bag warmer. I've used this bag in snow, with a down jacket that weighs more than the bag. This is a good combination as it allows the user to walk in night clothing at camp.

I have no idea how much a similar used bag would cost. If you are interested it should be possible to find a similar used bag and base the price on that.

What colour is that bag label Lophophaps?
It sounds like a Mountain Equipment Snowline or Lightline depending on the colour of the Blue
Could you PM me some photos or post them here ? I sold a couple of these bags way back and have regretted it ever since

Moondog, brilliant! Many thanks for that memory. It's a Lightline. The label is nearly all gone, just a very faint "M" left. I'll send you some pics later, not home now. I gather that you take large sizes. Is the Lightline big enough for you?

Here's a comparison chart. The Lightline in the chart is the current model, about 200 grams heavier than mine, so the information does not apply. Look at the Classic 500, about the same weight at my bag.

Seriously, as a thrashing sleeper I find my quilt the perfect solution. Now I use a Katabatibc gear Palisade and find it stays put on the mat with their attachment system while I do my rotisserie thing. I also have a flex 22 and find it very "flex"ible.
Katabatic gear just reduced their prices with 30%

From memory the Liteline was the first sub kilo sleeping bag considered good enough for winter ALMOST
500 grams of down and 995 grams total
I remember an article about Peter Hutchinson ( PHD) and the founder of Mountain Equipment using one of those plus a Modern down jacket in the first of the Goretex bivvy bags in a Scottish winter to demonstrate the effectiveness of his new range of gear Sometime about 1980 I think, article was in Mountain I think
Good gear now Exceptional at the time
Today of course 500 grams of down will be warmer due to higher FP supplies and much lighter fabrics

My wife has a Mountain Designs Travelite 720 which never gets used which could be for sale, but is 1.3kg.. but does have a -2 comfort limit.

It's only been used a handful of times and in excellent condition..

Let me know if this may suit.. would move it along for around the $200 mark... but would need to check with her first
